The battlefield was drenched in chaos, but in this moment, all Nuxsus focused on was her.
Harley Quinn.
She stood over Joker's lifeless body, her breath coming in ragged pants. Her bat, slick with blood, dripped onto the cold concrete. Her once-playful blue and pink pigtails were stained red. She had kept swinging, over and over, until there was barely anything left of his skull.
Even in death, Joker's twisted grin remained—mocking, haunting, eternal.
But Harley didn't care.
She raised her bat again— ready to bring it down once more.
CLANG.
A firm hand stopped her swing.
Her wide, manic eyes snapped up. Nuxsus stood before her, gripping the bat effortlessly. Blood covered her face—his blood, his filth, his torment.
Nuxsus reached out and wiped it away.
His thumb brushed over her cheek, smearing crimson away like it was nothing more than dirt. Then, he smiled.
"You're free now, Harley." His voice was low, smooth—final. "He doesn't own you anymore. You're fully mine."
Harley's breath hitched. Her fingers trembled around the bat's handle.
Then—her lips curled into a grin.
Her heart raced, but not with fear—with something else.
"Yours, huh?" she whispered, tilting her head.
Nuxsus simply nodded.
And then—she dropped the bat.
With a relieved laugh, she threw her arms around his neck, pressing herself against him.
"Oh, Puddin'," she murmured, voice laced with something wickedly sweet. "I ain't never been happier."
---
A few feet away, a loud, pathetic scream rang out.
"LET ME GO! YOU CAN'T DO THIS!"
Artoria ignored him, dragging Professor Ivo across the battlefield by his leg.
The man kicked and thrashed, trying to pry himself free from her grip, but her strength was absolute. His pristine white lab coat was torn and dirtied, his face bruised from where she had slammed him into the ground earlier.
"STOP! I— I CAN PAY YOU! I CAN GIVE YOU POWER!"
Artoria didn't even glance at him.
She dragged him all the way to Nuxsus, then finally released her grip, letting his leg drop limply.
She straightened up and turned to her master. "I've brought my target."
Nuxsus turned from Harley, his gaze landing on Artoria before flicking down to the sniveling mess of a man before him.
A slow smirk stretched across his lips.
"Good girl," he said, his voice laced with satisfaction. "I'm proud of you."
Artoria visibly stood straighter at his words.
Nuxsus crouched down, meeting Ivo's panicked gaze.
The scientist trembled, his eyes darting around wildly, looking for any escape that didn't exist.
"P-Please!" he gasped, hands shaking as he clutched at Nuxsus' leg. "I— I can help you! I can build for you, serve you, do anything you want! Just let me live!"
Nuxsus chuckled.
"You know… at first, I might've considered that."
Ivo's face lit up with desperate hope. "Y-Yes! Yes! I can be useful! I—"
"But then I realized something." Nuxsus tilted his head, his smirk turning sharp. "My enemies can teleport people… but they didn't teleport you away."
The realization hit Ivo like a hammer.
His hope shattered.
"T-That's—"
"That means," Nuxsus continued, "you're pretty fucking useless."
Before Ivo could even scream, Nuxsus' claws tore through his throat.
A wet gurgle escaped his lips as blood poured from the gaping wound.
His body spasmed violently—his fingers twitched, his legs jerked—before he collapsed to the ground, choking on his own lifeblood.
Nuxsus stood, watching as Ivo bled out, his dying eyes filled with horror.
With one last, pathetic shudder, the scientist fell still.
.....
Nuxsus let out a deep breath, a smirk curling at the edges of his lips.
"Well, that's that," he muttered, looking around the ruined battlefield. "Pretty damn good fight, if I do say so myself. Gained a new ally, took care of some pests. All in all? A solid day's work."
Harley giggled beside him, twirling her bat. "Damn right, Puddin'! I ain't never felt this good before!"
Raven, still standing near the battered remains of the facility, turned toward him, her dark gaze unreadable. "And what about them?" she asked, motioning toward the distant chambers—where the results of Ivo's experiments still lay, twisted and broken. "They're barely even people anymore."
Nuxsus glanced in their direction, his smirk fading into something more thoughtful. "That's where you come in, birdie."
Raven arched a brow. "Me?"
He nodded. "You're gonna make them loyal."
She crossed her arms. "And how exactly do i do that?"
"A blood pact," he said. "Mind control that binds them to a master. At least, that's what I've heard."
Raven's eyes narrowed. "That kind of magic isn't easy. The blood pact you're talking about requires more than just a spell—it needs a… wait…"
Her words trailed off as something clicked in her mind. She turned to Nuxsus, her eyes glowing faintly with realization.
Arcane Knowledge—the power he had given her—flooded her senses, revealing something she hadn't seen before.
Her lips curled into a slow smile. "That spell doesn't just need any master… It needs a Vampire Lord."
She took a step closer to him, amusement dancing in her dark eyes. "And there's no Lord better than you, is there?"
Nuxsus chuckled, his smirk returning. "Damn right."
Raven lifted her hand, dark energy swirling around her fingers as she began to carve intricate symbols into the ground. The spell was ancient, powerful… and now completely within her grasp.
As she worked, Nuxsus turned, gesturing for Artoria to follow him.
"Come on," he said. "We've got something else to handle."
---
They walked through the dim corridors, the scent of metal and death still lingering in the air. Artoria moved with quiet grace beside him, but there was a sharpness in her gaze, as if she sensed what was coming.
"I need you for this," Nuxsus admitted as they approached a heavily secured chamber. "What we're about to face… it's not normal. Even by my standards."
Artoria gave a small nod, her hand resting on her invisible blade. "Understood, Master."
But when they stepped inside—the room was empty.
The pod that had contained Doomsday was gone.
Nuxsus frowned, his eyes scanning every inch of the area. "Tch. Looks like they teleported him away."
His smirk twitched, but there was an edge of annoyance to it. "What a damn shame. That would've been fun."
Artoria observed him for a moment before speaking. "Master, may I ask a question?"
Nuxsus glanced at her and gave a small nod. "Go ahead."
She hesitated for only a second before her sharp, golden eyes locked onto his.
"When is the Grail War?" she asked
Artoria's gaze didn't waver. "I am also curious about something else, Master." She took a slow step closer. "Your mana… it is far too potent for a mere human. It is denser, more refined. It lingers unnaturally."
A pause.
Then—her voice dropped to something more certain.
"Are you… a Divine Spirit?"
Nuxsus' smirk widened, but he said nothing.
Artoria continued, her eyes narrowing. "Or perhaps… something else? A vampire? A Dead Apostle?"
