"What do you mean, 'I'll understand'?" I demanded, panic creeping into my voice. "What do you want from me?"
The man didn't immediately respond, only studied me with an unreadable expression. Then, he gave a slight shake of his head. "I'm not the one who will explain this to you. But I'm here to warn you."
"Warn me?" I repeated, my voice high and shaky now. "Warn me about what?"
He stepped closer, his presence undeniable, suffocating. For a second, I felt like I couldn't breathe, like the weight of the world had suddenly settled on my chest. But then, he spoke again, his tone softening just enough to make it almost feel like a whisper in my ear.
"You've been kept in the dark for too long," he said. "But the time for hiding is coming to an end. You'll need to understand what you are. Who you are."
I opened my mouth to respond, but nothing came out. My brain was scrambling, trying to make sense of his words. The way he said it—*what you are*—felt like an accusation, like there was something inside me I didn't even know was there.
The man didn't wait for me to speak. "The Alpha will find you," he said, his voice harder now, almost as if he was giving me a command. "You'll meet him soon. He's the one who will give you the answers you seek."
My mind reeled. The Alpha? What was that supposed to mean? I didn't know any *Alpha*. I didn't even believe in this supernatural stuff. Was this some sort of sick joke?
Before I could ask another question, he stepped back, eyes darkening, as if he'd said all he needed to. "Stay out of sight for now, Serena," he added, his gaze flickering to my hands again. "Your wolf is stirring. It's not ready yet, but it's waking up. Be careful."
"Wolf?" I repeated, confused. "What do you mean?"
But by the time I spoke, he was gone—*vanished*—as if he had never been there. One second, I was staring at him, and the next, the forest was silent again. No trace of him. Nothing.
I stood frozen, my mind scrambling for something—*anything*—to make sense of what had just happened. A man who knew my name, a warning about my "wolf," and something about an *Alpha*. None of it made sense. It was as though my world had been turned upside down in a matter of minutes.
I wanted to run. I wanted to scream, to demand answers. But I couldn't. I couldn't even move, not with the weight of his words crushing me from all sides.
*Stay out of sight. Your wolf is waking up.*
What did he mean? I was human, just a regular girl who had no idea what he was talking about. And yet, a cold dread slithered down my spine. Something deep inside me was... *shifting*—like I was becoming someone else, someone I didn't know.
I had no answers. No explanations. But one thing was certain: my life was never going to be the same again.
