Betrayal II

Chapter 2

Selene ~~

The walls of the packhouse felt like they were suffocating me.

The air was heavy, thick with the scent of betrayal, of broken promises. My heart pounded painfully against my ribs as I stumbled down the hallway, my vision blurred with unshed tears.

Damian's words still echoed in my head, each syllable like a dagger to my soul.

"Lillith is pregnant."

That single sentence had shattered me.

For years, I had dreamed of carrying his child, of giving him an heir, of building a future together. But fate had other plans.

The Moon Goddess had made me a Luna but had cursed me with an empty womb.

And now, Lillith—the woman I once considered a friend—had given Damian what I never could.

I pressed a hand to my stomach, the ache unbearable.

I needed to get out.

I couldn't stay here. Not in this house, not in this moment. If I stayed, I would break, and I couldn't afford that.

I turned on my heel, my breath ragged as I rushed toward the corridor.

Then I smelled it.

A sickly sweet scent. Cloying. Overpowering.

Lillith.

I halted mid-step, my body going rigid.

And then, there she was.

She stood in front of me, her golden hair cascading over her shoulders, her soft silk dress barely concealing the slight swell of her stomach. Her lips were curved into something that was supposed to resemble concern, but I knew better.

It was satisfaction.

"Selene," she said softly, tilting her head as she gazed at me with pity. "I was looking for you."

My fingers curled into fists at my sides.

"Get out of my way," I said coldly.

"Please," she sighed, shaking her head like I was some wounded animal. "I know you're hurting. I just… I never wanted things to happen this way."

A bitter laugh escaped me before I could stop it.

"You never wanted this?" I repeated, my voice laced with disbelief. "You expect me to believe that?"

Lillith's lower lip trembled in what I was sure was a rehearsed display of innocence.

"I didn't plan this," she whispered, her voice delicate. "I never asked for Damian to love me. I never asked for Luna's position. You know that."

Something inside me cracked.

She was right—she had never openly asked for my title.

But she had taken everything else.

I clenched my jaw.

"You didn't have to ask for it, Lillith," I said, my voice dangerously quiet. "You took it anyway."

She exhaled, shaking her head. "Selene, you're not being fair. Damian and I… We never meant to hurt you."

The sound of her voice, the way she spoke like she was the victim, made my blood boil.

"You never meant to hurt me?" I scoffed. "Then tell me, did you hesitate at all when you spread your legs for my mate?"

A flicker of something flashed across her face—anger, maybe—but it was gone as quickly as it appeared.

She inhaled sharply, composing herself before a small, cruel smile crept onto her lips.

"You know," she said, tilting her head, "maybe it's for the best."

My body went rigid. "What?"

Her smile widened, her fingers trailing down to her stomach as she let out a soft sigh.

"Maybe you were never meant to be Luna," she murmured. "I mean, what kind of Luna can't even give her Alpha an heir?"

My heart stopped.

The words hit me harder than a silver blade.

I stared at her, my breath catching in my throat.

"You should be grateful," she continued, her voice sweet, poisonous. "You held the position for so long, even though you were… inadequate."

Something inside me snapped.

Before I could think, I raised my hand and was about to give her a deafening slap but suddenly held my self

"What are you going to do?, hit me?"

"You could hit someone but you couldn't bear a child?" She mocked.

"At least I didn't took someone's mate because nobody wants me." I fired back at her.

"You bitch!" she shrieked, eyes blazing with fury.

I stood my ground, my chest rising and falling heavily.

"You talk too much, Lillith," I said, my voice cold. "Maybe someone should remind you of your place."

Her eyes darkened, and before I could react, she lunged at me.

Pain exploded across my face as she slapped me, her nails scratching against my skin.

A low growl rumbled from my throat as I shoved her back.

"How dare you!" she hissed.

"How dare I?" I snapped. "You're the one who—"

"Enough!"

A sharp voice cut through the tension, and we both turned to see a man standing at the end of the corridor.

Lucas.

Damian's Gamma.

His icy blue eyes were filled with disapproval as he strode toward us, his gaze flicking between me and Lillith.

"What the hell is going on here?" he demanded.

Lillith immediately played the victim.

"Selene attacked me," she whined, her voice shaking as she pressed a hand to her reddened cheek. "I was only trying to make peace, but she—"

"That's a lie!" I snapped. "I didn't attacked her even after she provoked me!"

Lucas's gaze settled on me, his expression unreadable.

Then, he sneered.

"I shouldn't be surprised," he muttered. "You were always selfish, Luna."

Luna.

The title sounded like an insult coming from his lips.

"You refuse to fulfill your duty, yet you have the audacity to act as if you're the victim?" he scoffed. "Lillith took on the responsibility that you failed to do. She gave Alpha Damian an heir, something you never could. You should be grateful."

A cold rage crept up my spine.

Failed?

Was that what they all thought?

That I was a failure?

That my worth as Luna was reduced to my ability to bear children?

My fingers twitched at my sides. I had taken enough humiliation for one day.

I took a step forward, my eyes locked onto his.

"You dare speak to me that way." I asked, my voice deadly quiet.

Lucas smirked. "I only speak the truth."

"Then let me remind you of another truth," I said coldly.

"It was your Alpha who broke his vows by sleeping with some else while married and your precious Lillith who betrayed her own friend."

"And you all seem to still blame me for everything , even you, Lucas??"

" it seems You forget your place," I said, my voice ringing with authority. "I am still your Luna. And you will respect me."

He gritted his teeth but said nothing.

"Now get out of my sight," I ordered.

Lucas hesitated, then bowed stiffly before turning and walking away.

Lillith lingered, her lips parted as if she wanted to say something but I didn't even give her the chance to as I walked out of her sight.
