Prologue

Kieran.

I stood at the edge of the rooftop, the city lights twinkling below me like stars. The wind whipped through my hair, carrying the whispers of my family's legacy. I felt the weight of it all bearing down on me.

My name is Kieran Asher, and I'm the heir to Asher Enterprises, a global conglomerate built by my family. But with great power comes great responsibility, and I've always struggled to live up to my father's expectations.

I looked down and my eyes caught the files I had in hand. My thoughts drifted to Iris Moreau, a brilliant lawyer who had been investigating Asher Enterprises. We had clashed, but I couldn't deny the spark between us. Her determination had sparked something within me, but my pride had led to a series of missteps.

Guilt rushed at my conscience. I couldn't shake the feeling that I was responsible for Iris's tragic death. Her memory haunted me, a constant reminder of my failures.

As I stood there, lost in thought, a rush of wind hugged me. I stumbled backward, my hands grasping for something to hold onto. That's when I saw him, Nathaniel Drake, a wealthy financier with ties to my family.

Nathaniel's eyes gleamed with intensity as he approached me. "Kieran, I've been waiting for you," he said, his voice low and smooth.

I felt a shiver run down my spine. What did he want? "What brings you here, Nathaniel?" I asked, trying to sound calm.

"I know about Iris," he replied, his eyes locked on mine. "I know what you did. And I can help you make it right."

My heart skipped a beat. Make it right? How? "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Nathaniel's smile was enigmatic. "I can help you resurrect Iris back to life, Kieran. That's if you're willing to work with me" He smirked.

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Bring Iris back? Was that even possible? A spark of hope ignited within me, but I was wary. What did Nathaniel want in return?
