The Voice

The candles lighting up August´s room flickered, almost like an unknown wind had blown through the room. The hole room was as silent as the night.

August felt the hair in his neck raise as he quickly got goosebumps all over his arms. His breathing completely stopped, and he could feel a giant lump forming in his throat. His back quickly became completely drenched in sweat as he felt his heart start beating faster.

Suddenly the room felt way too quiet, his hearing sharpened, catching every single sound in the room. The silent flickering of the flames burning on the candles, the sound of his own heart. He even felt he could hear the silence.

"You don't have to be so scared. What do you think I am? A pedophile? The voice said again laughing.

It´s laughing? That was the only thing Augustus managed to think. He still stood there right in front of the door, frozen. All he had to do was open the door and scream at the top of his lungs and every knight and blessed in the Visconti estate would come rushing, but he couldn't.

"Aah, man you sure are boring. You know I haven't really been able to talk to anyone except for myself for a really long time, you can at least have the courtesy of answering. Well, I guess I´ll give you a few minutes, since I´m quite kind." the voice complained.

After a few minutes of August standing there he could finally feel his heartbeat start calming down. He then turned around and walked over to his desk before pulling out his chair and sitting down elegantly.

"Wh-Who are you?" August asked nervously.

"Well, well, look who can actually talk. I was almost a little scared you were mute." the voice said, sounding humored.

"I am your very own best friend, I mean have you never wanted a friend you could talk to all the time, a friend that could see, hear and feel everything you did."

"…."

"…."

"Okay, okay. You really are a bore. I am, or was at least a god."

"…You are a what?" August replied. He wasn't really sure if he had heard this voice in his head right.

"Yes, I am a god. Not a big one though, not like that guy that died here. Compared to him I can't even be called a fly. But still, yes, in the sense of the word I am a god."

"And what is a god in the sense of the word?" August asked curiously. He had never really talked to a god before, no one had really.

"…That isn't really that important, you´ll figure it out." the voice answered.

That didn't really sound very convincing, August thought to himself. He had the slight feeling that the voice in his head was a rather, well, interesting fellow.

"Alright, well, why are you in my head?"

This was something August was rather curious about. A voice had suddenly showed up in his head, claiming to be a god. Regardless of whether the voice really was a god or not, there was certainly not many that could enter someone's head.

"I am kind of recovering, or something like that. I am not too sure about the details myself. I just woke up suddenly, and I was stuck inside your head. Trust me if I could have chosen, I wouldn't have chosen someone like you."

"Someone like me?" August asked feeling rather humbled.

"Yeah, I mean according to the ranking system you humans use, you are indeed the lowest. I mean I could have at least been trapped in the head of a Seraphim." the voice answered frankly.

"We don't really have anyone in the Seraphim rank amongst humans, the highest known rank is Dominion, and there are only like six of them between all countries." August said.

"…You don't even have anyone in the High Order? Not even a throne? Wow, I guess I really overestimated you, huh. Well, it kind of makes sense, to rank up from angel to archangel you have to sacrifice someone of the same rank, and I bet those Dominions of yours wouldn't even think about fighting another."

"Yeah, I guess. And I mean, we don't really have to either. There hasn't been a war for like 8 centuries." August said as he thought about what changes would happen with a god coming to life again. Just thinking about it gave him a headache.

"Anyway, I´ll be resting now. All this talking with has had all my spirit essence drained. I don't really know when I´ll be able to talk to you again, but you´re probably happy about that." the voice said sounding like it was slowly fading away.

"Okay, okay… Wait! What do I call you?" August had quickly come to the conclusion that having a god in his might not be a bad idea. It could definitely help him, and while August didn't trust the voice claiming to be a god, he did feel like they could use each other.

"You can call me Amadis"
