Chapter 42: Hugh Langford (III)

Hugh ignored his son. He kept his eyes on Eve and said, "Miss Carpenter, you are a gorgeous woman. With all my sobriety and clear-headedness, I can admit that you are one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in my life. I also heard from the main hall that you are a businesswoman who owns an advertising agency. One of my companies might have used your service to make an advertisement before."

"You could've taken the easy route by becoming a model or an actress with your looks, but you choose to be a businesswoman instead. As much as this recognition goes, your portfolio has impressed me, Miss Carpenter," Hugh said. But the way he looked at her felt insulting, as it felt like he was appraising her worth as an item.

This time, Eve didn't thank him, fearing that he would cut her off again and make her look like an idiot.

She thought right because he soon followed up that compliment with another condescending statement.
