Chapter 6

In the hospital morgue, the charred and unrecognizable body lay there.

The hospital director and his assistant stood nearby, not daring to make a sound.

Only Dashiell approached with hesitant curiosity, gently lifting the white sheet.

Upon seeing the body, he was first shocked, then silently began to weep.

When he saw the burned and misshapen ring on the right ring finger, he finally broke down into uncontrollable sobs.

"Why did this happen? Why did it have to be like this?"

"Felicity, how could you be so foolish? I never meant to hurt you. I married you, and I was always going to take responsibility for you and the child."

"I couldn't let go of Elena, it's true, but I never planned to abandon you. I had already made up my mind that after Elena's surgery was successful, I would put aside my obsession with her and focus on our life together. Why did you have to leave me?"

His cries of despair and sorrow echoed through the silent room.
