[Due to certain reasons, Vivienne and I are unable to hold our wedding as scheduled. Thank you all for your blessings, and I apologize for keeping everyone waiting for so long.]
Since the wedding was canceled, we naturally had to inform the guests who had been previously notified.
I edited a text message and sent it out to everyone. Soon, I received some replies.
Most people expressed regret and understanding, while some were curious about the reason.
After seven years of dating, I ultimately left Vivienne with a shred of dignity, only making the excuse that she was unexpectedly hospitalized, which led to the wedding being unable to proceed as planned.
After finishing up and putting down my phone, the urge to smash things had subsided, but looking at the wedding room I had personally decorated, I still found everything irritating.
Since it was uncomfortable to look at, I simply packed some luggage and went out to check into a hotel.
I saw Vivienne again half a month later.
At the time, I was in my office listening to a report from a company subordinate when she barged in aggressively, followed by my anxious-looking secretary.
"Miss Stone, Mr. Frost is busy, I......"
My previous indulgence towards Vivienne was well-known, and everyone in the company knew she was my fiancée, so it was normal for the secretary not to dare stop her.I didn't blame her. I simply waved my hand, signaling for my secretary and the others to leave.
Once only the two of us remained in the office, Vivienne flung her small purse aside and confronted me aggressively, "Archer, what's the meaning of this?"
"What gives you the right to reject Jaxon's company's project? Do you have any idea how important this project is to Jaxon?"
"Is this some kind of trick you're pulling just because I won't marry you? I never realized you were this kind of person before."
Of course, it was because the project would lose money. If it hadn't been for Vivienne's sake initially, it wouldn't have even qualified for discussion at the board meeting.
However, I didn't explain this to her. Instead, I sneered and retorted, "If you don't remember me, how do you know what kind of person I used to be?"
"I..."
Vivienne was momentarily at a loss for words, but quickly regained her composure and replied self-righteously, "I may have lost my memory, but isn't it normal to have subconscious impressions after being together for so many years?"
"Besides, is this even the issue right now? We're talking about Jaxon's project!"
"Do you know that Jaxon has already guaranteed that if this project doesn't get investment, he might be kicked out of the company?"I softly replied, "This is the board's decision. I can't change it."
In reality, I could. The project was of modest scale, and even if it resulted in a loss, it wouldn't significantly impact the company. If I insisted, the board members would likely oblige.
The truth was, this wasn't the first time we'd invested in Jaxon's company. Everyone knew full well that this project wasn't meant to turn a profit, and initially, no one had objected.
The real person who vetoed this project was me.
Vivienne hadn't paid much attention to company affairs and wasn't aware of the intricacies involved, but that didn't stop her from issuing orders to me.
"I don't care. Jaxon is my friend. He helped me a lot when we were kids. I can't just stand by and do nothing about his situation."
"Sign off on the project now and transfer the funds!"
"Vivienne, our wedding has been called off. Why do you think I'd still help you?"
My words were clearly sarcastic, but she looked at me with disdain, as if this was exactly what she'd expected.
"When it comes down to it, you're still bitter that I wouldn't marry you, aren't you?"
"If you just sign off on the project, I might reconsider giving you another chance!"
