The bloody color of the sky alongside the deafening claps of thunder accompanied by unending bolts of lightening in Notheris had its deadly meaning, which cannot be ignored. It didn't matter how many times the people saw it , the terrifying events that followed still sent shivers down the spine of everyone who experienced its horror.
Devasena was angry!
Devasena!, this name when heared made people tremble. Everyone knew Devasena to be the great princess of Notheris, the most powerful kingdom in the history of royalty. Notheris thrived in every aspect. Agriculture was ridiculously bountiful, the soldiers were like gods on the battle field basking in the blood of kingdoms that were brave enough to offend or challenge Notheris. This was baffling to other kingdoms because Devasena always led the soldiers to war and would always return victorious. Devasena was the strongest, bravest and fastest warrior that Notheris ever had. No one could beat her in a duel , even the strongest men dreaded her blades, she brandished swords like they were feathers. She was known as the warrior princess because of her cold, menacing and ruthless demeanour. There was also a dark cloud of mysteries tht surrounded Devasena's emotions and the weather.
There were people who speculated that they were protected and blessed by an ancient goddess that resided in Notheris, centuries before it existed. Arrhena was the most powerful goddess among all the ancient gods and goddesses, she possessed all the powers of the other immortals giving her the power to defy fate and death itself, no power as great as hers existed, nor can there be any cause to her end except herself and whoever it was that had her heart.
"Devasena, are you forgeting your duty to the throne and your father" isabella yelled, "You have to control your anger this instant, or else..."
"Or..." Devasena mumbled under her stuffy breath as she shot her mother a threatning look. "I have feelings too... mother".
" Your 'feelings' happens to be the reason for the turmoil in Notheris...
"Father i...
"Considering the fact thet you are yet to be queen and i still have the right to choose someone else, say...Eurika as the future queen, then..." King Zayne retorted indignantly.
"Enough!!, I have had just about enough of this madness...
"Devasena!, do not forget who you are speaking to in your feat of rage "
" Its both your faults that this is happening, you both did this to me " she turns to her father "You are not threatening me, are you father? , you made the decision to get me married to Yuviel, but did you think about me for once did you?, you didn't think he would jilt and break me like this did you?"
"..."
" Speak up father!" Devasena yelled. "It was all your fault and you dare to threaten me, huh. From now on, don't blame me for being ruthless" She stormed to her room leaving her parents speechless.
"What do you think Draki" she said to her baby dragon who opened her mouth revealing fumes shaped like symbols in response. " Do you think i am weak, I am Devasena ".
Devasena claimed Elarix when she had turned eighteen , it was a custom that the royal family had kept up since Notheris was created. It was a method of keeping the princesses safe from danger. Dragons were powerful animals that had been Arrhena's pets when she was alive. Only Notheris had this mystical creature, hence, their power.
Although the dragons were in Notheris, they didn't belong to them, the dragons chose the princess of their choice. And every princess that had been were chosen by mighty dragons except Devasena. Elarix had chosen her, a baby dragon without powers. Devasena wondered how she ended up with a dragon that could barely light a lamp.
Either way, there was an undeniably strong zing they felt at their first meeting, Devasena found out Elarix could understand what she was saying and vice versa.
"Patience child, great powers await you" a voice almost like the wooshing of the wind whispered.
A glint flashed Elarix's eyes , but dissapeared almost immediately. Devasena unsheathed her sword as she looked around for the source of the voice but found nothing.
Something didn't seem right with Elarix either as she became eerily silent with her button -like eyes staring intently at the distance.
...
"Her highness is back to her lovely self , you can tell by the weather today" a woman amongst the crowd in the market cheered with a bright grin on her face" .
"Why does she get to control the weather, isn't that strange. She is not like any princess i have seen, her strange abilities are frightening", another person chimed in.
"She is really kind hearted you know, but it is more than just a coincidence that she has one of the abilities of the great Arrhena". Everyone turned to see Irene, the kingdom's diviner,
" Irene, it is a coincidence, the legend about Arrhena having a reincarnate is just a myth, it can't be".
"Even it were true, what makes you think the princess could be the reincarnate " another person butted in.
"No more! Arrhena will choose her reincarnate, regardless your thoughts" Irene concluded firmly.
...
Later that night, Devasena decided to meet her father concerning her position as the future ruler of Notheris, she had a feeling her father was conflicted in his choices and it was not about to favor her in anyway unless she fought her way through to his decisions.
"Devasena , what has brought you to my chambers"
"Father... i am really worried..."
"About what , there is nothing to be worried about Devasena. You are the self proclaimed ruler of Notheris now aren't you?"
"Father!!!" Devasena's roar shook the throne room, her hands curled tightly into a fist.
"You have chosen to strip me of my birth right ,but i promise i will fight for my throne with every breath." She turns to leave but suddenly she halted, a cold smile crept to her face as she faced King Zayne "No one can take Notheris away from my grasp... Not you, not your fake son"
"..." The king sat on his throne, almost expressionless but Devasena managed to read betrayal in his eyes, he was never going to give her a chance to prove herself.
Devasena walked away, her feet hit the ground sharply, each step a promising war.
The large ornate doors shut tightly after Devasena, shutting her out of the throne room, but the doors couldn't shut out the echoes of her words that lingererd in the throne room like a terrible curse.
Eurika who overheared the father-daughter conversation walks towards his father
"Hmph, impudent girl," the prince scoffed." shall i send the guards after her "
Zayne's gaze fixed on the doors as his voice carried a trace of regret and anger "Let her go"
Eurika frowned, "She is a threat father, we shoul..."
"And she is my daughter" Zayne cut him off, his voice colder than the marble beneath them "she will return"
Outside the castle walls, Devasena mounted her horse as she rode fiercely into the night. Her grip tightened on the reins, it wasn't the end, rather it was the beginning of her journey to carve her path to power.
