The Breaking Point

"Uncle Merrick, why are you making a fuss about some lowly Spirit Labourers?"

A man in his twenties scoffed at Merrick and sneered, "And what rule did I break, exactly?"

Across from him, Merrick knelt beside a middle-aged man lying unconscious on the ground, carefully checking his pulse.

Next to Merrick, a woman sobbed uncontrollably, her face covered in tears as she looked at the unconscious man.

"He can be saved, right?"

The woman asked Merrick while sobbing.

"He is alive. He is just unconscious due to the severe blood loss from the severed leg."

The physician brought by Merrick spoke in a heavy tone.

"..."

Merrick was unable to find words to console the woman when he looked at the missing leg of the middle-aged man.

The middle-aged man was none other than Garrick, and the sobbing woman was Vera.
