Su Wan moves to the kitchen, which is nothing more than a small, soot-covered shed with a makeshift stove. The cold wind sneaks through the gaps in the wooden walls, but she barely notices.
Her mind is already planning.
She grabs a handful of rough, cracked rice grains from the storage pot. This was the food she was expected to survive on? A single mouthful wouldn't even satisfy a child.
Glancing around to make sure no one is watching, she mentally selects a handful of white rice from her space.
'[Ding! Item retrieved.]'
A small pile of plump, clean grains replaces the dirty rice in her hands.
She mixes it in with the rest before tossing everything into the pot.
"This will at least taste better."
The old Su Wan would've accepted whatever was given to her. This Su Wan? Not anymore.
As she stirs the pot, the sound of angry voices drifts in from the yard.
"That girl is still alive?"
It's her 'older cousin, Su Jianhua.'
Su Wan's lips twitch. *Wow. They're not even trying to hide their disappointment.*
"She should be grateful she woke up," her aunt grumbles. "Now she can start working again."
"Let's not waste food on her," Su Jianhua sneers. "She's not even part of our family."
Su Wan slowly ladles the porridge into bowls.
Her heart is calm, but inside, a storm brews.
These people had let her collapse without a second thought. And now, they wanted her to work like a mule while they enjoyed life?
She wouldn't let that happen.

As the family gathers for breakfast, Su Wan takes her usual seat at the end of the table.
Zhao Lanying sniffs the air. "Why does the porridge smell better than usual?"
Su Wan pretends not to hear.
The family starts eating. The moment Su Jianhua takes a bite, he freezes.
His head snaps up. "Why is this rice different?"
Zhao Lanying's eyes narrow. She scoops a spoonful and gasps.
"This… This is white rice!"
The entire family stares at Su Wan.
"Where did you get this?" Su Daqiang demands.
Su Wan blinks innocently. "It's the same rice as always. Maybe my cooking skills improved?"
Zhao Lanying slams the bowl down. "Nonsense! Did you steal from the grain storage?"
Su Wan's expression turns aggrieved. "Aunt, are you accusing me without proof?"
Zhao Lanying's face darkens. 'This girl never used to talk back!'
Before the argument can escalate, Su Xiaomei—her younger cousin—lets out a wail.
"Mother! There's a bug in my porridge!"
Zhao Lanying snatches the bowl—and sure enough, a fat black bug floats on top.
Su Wan bites back a laugh. She had seen the bugs in the family's stored rice and deliberately left one in her cousin's bowl.
The family erupts into chaos.
Zhao Lanying yells at Su Wan. Su Jianhua gags at the thought of eating infested rice. Su Daqiang grumbles about their luck.
Meanwhile, Su Wan calmly eats her bowl of clean, fragrant rice.
She wasn't the one suffering anymore.

By mid-morning, word spreads through the village.
"Did you hear? Su Wan collapsed yesterday, and her family didn't even care!"
"I saw her carrying heavy buckets while her cousins just watched! Poor girl."
"They even accused her of stealing food this morning! Shameless!"
Zhao Lanying turns red with anger.
Su Wan had done nothing except eat breakfast, yet the entire village was talking as if she were a pitiful victim.
Before Zhao Lanying can retaliate, the village brigade leader arrives.
"The Su family has an extra mouth to feed but not enough work points," he says sternly. "From now on, Su Wan will work in the fields."
Su Wan lowers her head to hide smile.
Perfect.
She needed a reason to earn her own food—and now, the village had handed her the opportunity.
She looks up, eyes filled with fake gratitude.
"Thank you, Brigade Leader," she says softly. "I'll work hard."
Her uncle's family grits their teeth.
They had hoped to continue starving her, but now?
Su Wan was becoming untouchable!.
