Waiting for someone

After dinner, as soon as Rong Ci got home, a call from Yu Mo Xun came through. After learning what Nan Zhizhi wanted to discuss with her, he said, "Ren Yian and Ji Huanying? I've already met them." Then he added, "By the way, that Ren Jijun is actually Ren Yian's son. Tsk—such an impressive father, yet his son is already blind at such a young age."

Rong Ci never expected that Ren Jijun was Ren Yian's son. However, that didn't concern her at all.

On Tuesday, when Xun Du's self-driving car was undergoing its initial test, Rong Ci and Yu Mo Xun went to Xun Du bright and early. By then, Ren Jijun and Yao Xinbo had already arrived. They glanced at them briefly before quickly looking away. Yu Mo Xun wasn't inclined to engage; he led Rong Ci to begin the testing procedures.

After noticing that all the preliminary preparations were complete but the staff hadn't started the test yet, Yu Mo Xun asked, "Why haven't we started yet?"Quan Zong replied, "General Manager Feng will personally come to check on the test. Once he arrives, we'll begin officially."Yu Mo Xun responded with a quiet "Oh."

Then, recalling something, he asked, "By the way, why haven't we seen Miss Lin today?"Earlier, wasn't Lin Wu supposed to come to Xun Du to hone her skills? How could she vanish after just a few days?Quan Zong smiled and said, "Oh, Miss Lin had mentioned wanting to improve herself. General Manager Feng said that the fastest and best way to hone one's skills is to lead a team on a project. Just last week, he had someone reorganize an old project from the previous company. At that moment, Feng Ting Shen arrived. Accompanying him were He Changbai and Qi Yuming.He Changbai and Qi Yuming clearly hadn't expected to see them as well.Upon seeing her, their expressions turned to surprise.Rong Ci remained expressionless—she glanced briefly and then looked away.Feng Ting Shen, however, courteously approached them and greeted, "Thank you all for your hard work."Quan Zong said, "General Feng, is it time to begin now…""Hold on, wait for one more person." Feng Ting Shen checked his watch and said, "I'll go upstairs to check; everyone please wait a moment."With that, he left.

Rong Ci hadn't intentionally thought about it, but she knew that the person Feng Ting Shen was referring to was Lin Wu. In other words, they wouldn't officially start the test until after Lin Wu finished her meeting.Yu Mo Xun clearly figured it out too, clenching his teeth and nearly swearing under his breath.

Soon enough, Feng Ting Shen and Lin Wu came downstairs. With them was Sun Liyao.Sun Liyao wasn't surprised to see Rong Ci, because Lin Wu had already informed her.Noticing that Rong Ci, although Feng Ting Shen's wife, was treated no differently from a subordinate—waiting for her "sister" (Lin Wu) to come down before work could continue—Sun Liyao's glance was laced with a touch of sarcasm and smugness.Rong Ci didn't bother to wonder why Sun Liyao was also in professional attire at Xun Du; she simply looked away.Lin Wu politely apologized, "I'm sorry to have kept everyone waiting."Her apology was sincere, yet she only looked at Ren Jijun and Yu Mo Xun while apologizing.Rong Ci wasn't even acknowledged by her.Ren Jijun, having his attention elsewhere, didn't notice these subtleties and said, "It's only a few minutes, no worries.""Ren General, you're very magnanimous," Yu Mo Xun remarked in a cool tone, "Since you're here, let's not waste any more time. Let's begin."Feng Ting Shen courteously replied, "It's our fault, Mr. Yu."Yu Mo Xun snorted coldly, grabbed Rong Ci, and led the way out of the meeting room.Feng Ting Shen noticed them leaving closely together, but quickly looked away as if he didn't mind.He Changbai, however, cast an extra couple of glances at them.In the group, Feng Ting Shen and Lin Wu were the center of attention.

At the test track, the staff respectfully reported, "General Feng, Miss Lin, we are ready."Their demeanor clearly treated Miss Lin as if she were the boss's wife.Feng Ting Shen said, "Let's begin.""Understood."They could clearly monitor the driving performance through the surveillance cameras.After the test driver successfully completed one round, the staff asked if Feng Ting Shen and Lin Wu would like to experience it themselves.Feng Ting Shen agreed, and he and Lin Wu got into the same car.On the monitors, it was clear they were chatting happily. Their glances at each other almost seemed to melt.Rong Ci watched the monitor without looking away, her expression indifferent.Yu Mo Xun, however, wore a face full of disdain.

Qi Yuming also wanted to try, and was about to speak with He Changbai when Sun Liyao approached him, "General He, we—"He Changbai interrupted, "You all go ahead; I'm not very interested."Sun Liyao was taken aback.Meanwhile, Quan Zong said to Yu Mo Xun and Rong Ci, "Mr. Yu, Miss Rong, would you like to give it a try?"They were very familiar with the car's condition—perhaps even more than many of Xun Du's staff.Initially, they were interested, but now they were so fed up that they didn't even feel like trying.Yu Mo Xun snorted, "No thanks."Rong Ci smiled and leaned close to whisper about the engine's details, "Are you sure you don't want to try it?"Yu Mo Xun glared at her and then asked, "How do you know about that?"Rong Ci touched her nose and replied, "I happened to glance at the data they brought over just now."A good memory certainly had its perks.With that, Yu Mo Xun's mood brightened, "Come back and help me replicate it.""Alright."

After the car test was completed, about half an hour had passed.Feng Ting Shen said, "Thank you all for your hard work today. How about we grab a meal together afterward?"Ren Jijun said, "Sure."Yu Mo Xun remained silent for a moment before responding coolly, "Sorry, we don't have time. You all enjoy your meal; we have other matters to attend to."Noticing this, Feng Ting Shen remarked, "In that case, let's do it another time," and then said to Quan Zong, "Please see Mr. Yu and Miss Rong out."Quan Zong promptly replied, "Understood."
