Chapter 36: Against the Abyssal Flames
Jin barely had time to react before the Abyssal Guardian lunged at him, its massive sword wreathed in black fire. The sheer intensity of the flames distorted the air around it, making it nearly impossible to judge its exact trajectory.
Clang!
Jin instinctively raised his sword, blocking the strike—but the force behind it was monstrous. He was sent flying, crashing into a nearby pillar. Pain erupted through his body, but he gritted his teeth and forced himself back onto his feet.
Aerin dashed forward, weaving through the flames as she struck at the Guardian's flank. Her sword left glowing blue streaks in the air, each strike aimed at weak points in the armor.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Sparks flew as her attacks connected, but the Guardian barely flinched. Instead, it twisted its body unnaturally fast, swinging its sword at her with lethal precision.
Aerin barely dodged, the blade slicing through a strand of her silver hair.
Lee Hwan took the opening. He surged forward, his Shadowsteel Gauntlets glowing dark purple as he threw a devastating uppercut at the Guardian's chest.
Boom!
The impact was enough to send cracks spiderwebbing across the enemy's armor, but—

Jin's eyes widened. It heals?!
Aerin cursed. "Damn it! We're barely making progress!"
The Guardian's red eyes flared, and the black flames exploded outward in a pulse of heat and destruction.
Jin reacted on instinct. "Fall back!"
But it was too late. The shockwave slammed into them, sending all three flying in different directions.

[Warning: Abyssal Flames' damage increasing over time.]
Jin coughed as he forced himself up. His body screamed in protest, but he didn't have the luxury of resting. The Guardian was advancing, its sword dragging against the ground, leaving a trail of molten stone in its wake.
Aerin winced as she got up, her breathing uneven. "This... this thing is a monster."
Lee Hwan wiped the blood from his lips. "If we don't end this now, we're screwed."
Jin tightened his grip on his sword. They had to find a way past its regeneration. A direct fight wouldn't work—its armor was too thick, and its healing made it even worse.
Then an idea struck him.
"Aerin," he said quickly. "Use everything you've got in one massive strike. Aim for the exact same spot we damaged earlier."
She blinked, but then she nodded, immediately understanding.
Lee Hwan cracked his knuckles. "And me?"
Jin exhaled. "You and I are going to hold it in place."
Hwan let out a low whistle. "Holding down a giant, flaming knight of death? Sounds like a fun plan."
Jin smirked despite the situation. "We don't have a choice."
The Guardian charged.
Jin moved first, activating Phantom Step to close the distance instantly. He struck at the Guardian's legs, forcing it to shift its stance.
Lee Hwan followed up, slamming his gauntlets into the ground. Shadows erupted upward, wrapping around the Guardian's limbs like chains.
For a brief second, the Abyssal Guardian was pinned.
"NOW, AERIN!" Jin shouted.
Aerin's sword flared with radiant energy, her entire body glowing with the power of her strongest skill.
"Celestial Blade—Final Arc!"
She vanished.
A split second later, she reappeared directly in front of the Guardian, her sword piercing through the exact weak spot they had damaged before.
CRACK.
The Guardian froze.
Then—

[Warning: Abyssal Guardian is entering Final Phase.]
The entire room shook violently as the Guardian let out a guttural, distorted roar. Its black flames erupted, turning into a raging inferno.
Jin's heart pounded. This wasn't over yet.
The final battle had just begun.
