Three months wasn't enough for Rhodes to earn much system gold solely by relying on the Monster Ranch or the Emperor's Avatar among the Grey Knights. So, he needed to go out on a hunt, hoping to gather more system gold for unexpected needs.
The Terra Expedition required him to deal with two Chaos Primarchs at once—Magnus and Fulgrim. Soon, even Mortarion might show up to join the mess.
Rhodes himself couldn't leave Macragge, as he still needed to develop his three star systems. But his monster army could! At the Monster Ranch, Golza had already absorbed enough flame energy to evolve into Flame Golza. With Bemstar, Red King, Melba, Guigass, and Mefilas, the planet's defenses were more than adequate.
To deal with Tyranids, long-range attackers or mechanical units were best. On his side, the advanced mothership fortress, the Iron Giant, and the newly upgraded King Joe robot were all at peak strength.
Plus, he had Boss King Joe, Mecha Ace, Mecha Seven, and the invincible Iron God Empera—each one a formidable force against the Tyranids.
The more Rhodes thought about it, the more feasible this plan seemed. He could even farm a million gold off the Tyranids and upgrade the second Pedan mothership.
Rhodes immediately contacted Mefilas to inquire about the Monster-Ork Ranch planet's status and told Mefilas he was considering a Phase 4 psychic upgrade.
"Master, with me and a few bio-monsters here, it's enough.
The next batch of orks needs the planet to recover a bit before they'll grow.
If you upgrade my psychic powers to Phase 4, I could probably handle all the orcs on the planet alone," Mefilas replied.
Over the past month, that metal skeleton hadn't shown up to cause trouble. After several defeats, it seemed he'd learned his lesson—or maybe Rhodes' two bait monsters had satisfied his collector's itch, and now he was busy admiring his new collection.
"Good. I need all your mechanical monsters transferred here. You and the bio-monsters defend the ranch.
In three months, come to me and pretend to be my subordinate.
You might face a powerful psychic Primarch, so I hope your psychic powers can suppress him," Rhodes said.
This time, Rhodes didn't want to end up like in canon—captured and imprisoned by Blackheart Huron alongside Guilliman. If Abaddon dared interfere again, Rhodes would wipe him out. After all, that guy had a Blackstone Fortress—a super-advanced weapon that could blow up a star if the three of them worked together.
"Don't worry, Master! My psychic powers will win against any enemy," Mefilas promised.
Every psychic upgrade was a qualitative leap; his powers were formidable!
"When you come here, I'll arrange for a new powerful monster to take your place."
"There's no need, Master. The orks on this planet won't mature for another six months. If I leave for a few months,
and you reclaim all the bio-monsters, there'll only be some immature ork fungi left.
Even if that metal skeleton comes, he won't have any interest here.
Besides, no one else but me is good at defending against him, especially among the mechanical monsters," Mefilas explained.
Rhodes' monsters weren't enough yet. Though there were 100 war model King Joe robots, they were mothership-bound and couldn't fight far from the ship—so no support here.
Plus, against Necrons, ordinary metal robots are countered—Necrons have many ways to paralyze machines. Last time, Mecha Ace, King Joe, and the Iron Giant were all disabled by them. If not for Mefilas's psychic powers, the enemy would've succeeded.
Only beings with special powers like Mefilas could deal with Necrons, so Mefilas shared his findings with Rhode.
"I see! From now on, no more mechanical monsters on your planet.
In three months, I'll remote-recall all monsters. Once Terra's campaign is over, you'll return to the ranch." Rhodes agreed.
Mefilas was right. Why try to guard against thieves every day? Just take away all the valuable monsters and robots, leaving nothing to steal! If the Necron liked, he could have the immature ork fungi!
Using a million system gold, Rhodes upgraded Mefilas to Phase 4 psychic powers.
This time, Mefilas's psychic abilities were even stronger, able to immobilize living creatures. Telekinesis, gigantification, elemental control, cosmic energy, teleportation—all greatly enhanced. His power soared!
If that Collectible King showed up again, he'd be taught a lesson for coveting Rhodes' monsters.
After finishing with Mefilas, Rhodes spent his remaining million system gold on a hundred draws from the mid-tier system shop.
Though this was for the Tyranids, Rhodes didn't choose mechanical monsters—he had enough firepower. What he lacked were unique talents, so he opted for aliens. The system flashed with golden light—110 gold boxes appeared, bursting open, revealing monster shards.
Rhodes received 140 monster shards, with many boxes yielding double rare shards. Half were alien shards, and finally, the one he'd longed for—Dimensional Yapoolian, the expert in super beast creation. Seeing the completed Yapoolian set, Rhodes was moved—finally, he'd got him!
He hadn't drawn Yapoolian before, but his creations—Mecha Ace, Dimensional Killer, and the Super Beast Notebook—had been of great help. Now, the real deal was here. Rhodes immediately synthesized and created the Dimensional Yapoolian.
Giant Dimensional Yapoolian—50 meters tall, 82,000 tons, the heaviest monster Rhodes had ever summoned, even heavier than the original form of Dark Giant Dalam.
Using his teleportation bracelet, Rhodes returned to his mothership and summoned the gigantic Yapoolian in his secret training room.
A flash of red light, and a fifty-meter-tall, spiked, bizarre-looking red alien appeared.
"Thank you, master, for pulling me from the depths of death," the massive Yapoolian said, shrinking to a two-meter-tall human form and kneeling before Rhodes.
Like other aliens, Yapoolians could easily disguise themselves as humans.
"Yapoolian, I've been looking forward to meeting you.
I've obtained many of your inventions—your lab notes, Mecha Ace, and especially the Ace Killer, which helped me a lot," Rhodes said, patting Yapoolian's shoulder.
"Master, you have my Ace Killer! That's my masterpiece. They can absorb beams, an ability unique to our kind.
The Super Beast Notebook is a hand-copied manual I sold, but some fusion methods are incomplete.
As for Mecha Ace, that was just a rough prototype," Yapoolian replied.
Ace Killer was his pride, the Notebook decent, but Mecha Ace was just a test subject, meant to be destroyed.
"Haha, your race's skills are legendary. I've made two super beast fusions—Bemstar + Golza, and Red King + Miklas. Both are being cultivated and should be ready soon," Rhodes said.
Balt and Zett had been working on the super beast project, but now with Yapoolian himself, he could take charge.
"You found the right person, Master.
Super beasts are my specialty. Bemstar is a fine subject. I even made a monster called Black Pigeon on Earth using Bemstar's genes.
The Red King-Miklas fusion is also a good idea, but fast synthesis requires my super beast fusion machine.
Without it, you can only make bio-super beasts, not those using dimensional energy or conceptual powers," Yapoolian explained.
Other aliens learned the technique from him; he even sold the full super beast method to Magma aliens.
