Fishing

"Well, Whiskers, it might take some time to learn this, so you'll have to be patient. Understand?" Tessa said, suddenly sounding very serious.

"I can be patient, but why so serious?"

"Well, there are also some dangers to fishing..."

"Oh! Like what?" Whiskers suddenly sounded a bit scared.

"There's a small chance you'll drown..." Tessa said, sounding sad.

"Oh, um, that's very slim, right?" he said anxiously.

"Yeah, as long as you don't hang too far over the water, everything is fine. Now, let me show you how to do this. Watch closely." Tessa looked for a good spot by the river, making sure her shadow wasn't showing in the water. "Make sure to look out for your shadow; it will alert the fish. Got it?"

"Yeah, I did not expect they could see that, though," Whiskers replied.

"Here's what to do now." She slowly put her paw in the water. "It may be cold, but don't go too fast."

Whiskers nodded.

"This is where it gets hard." She waited for a fish to swim by before she clawed at it and threw it on the forest ground, delivering the finishing blow. "Saw that?"

"That was amazing!" Whiskers exclaimed, his eyes full of surprise. "You did that so fast!"

"Thanks, it wasn't that impressive though," Tessa said, a bit shy. "You wanna try now?"

"Yes!" Whiskers sat at the side of the river and copied the same movements as Tessa. Not long after, he also caught a fish.

"Wow, you're a natural!"

"Thanks, Tessa! Uh, how do you eat this?" he said, a bit ashamed.

"Just bite into it, it's not that hard," Tessa laughed.

"Oh well, let's eat then!"

They both ate their fish.

"This really is delicious! Can't believe I was missing out on this!"

"Mhm. How was your life with your uh... what do you call them again?"

"You mean my humans?"

"Yeah, those!"

"Oh, well, it was all I knew, actually. I was born in one of the humans' houses and raised there. They had this beautiful garden with all sorts of plants, and in my village, they had all kinds of other cats. Everyone knew each other, and it was pretty nice!"

"How was your life in the wilderness, Tessa?"

"Well, it wasn't as easy as yours sounds. My parents died to a wolf when I was young. Me and my brother had to survive on our own with hunting. We learned along the way, but then one day he—" She suddenly shut down, looking sad. "I'm going for a walk. See you later."

"Uh, bye then!" Whiskers said, a bit confused.
