Mon had never been in a fight in his life. He had always been the type to avoid trouble, someone who drifted through life without a clear goal. But now, everything had changed. The world had become a battlefield, and survival was the only thing that mattered.
The air was thick with the scent of smoke and blood. The streets were littered with wreckage—overturned cars, broken glass, and the bodies of the unfortunate ones who hadn't managed to escape in time. In the distance, monstrous roars echoed through the city as more creatures poured out of the swirling gate.
Mon wiped the sweat from his forehead, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He had just used Dimensional Storage to trap a red-skinned orc, and the rush of adrenaline still surged through his veins. But he knew this was only the beginning.
A sudden cry caught his attention. He turned to see a young woman cornered by another orc, its jagged axe raised, ready to strike. She clutched a bleeding wound on her leg, her face twisted in terror.
Mon acted before he could think.
He focused on the axe in the orc's grip, willing it into his storage. A black portal flickered to life, swallowing the weapon instantly. The orc staggered back in shock, its empty hands grasping at nothing.
Seizing the moment, Mon opened another portal beneath the creature's feet. The swirling void expanded rapidly, and the orc let out a guttural roar as it was sucked inside, disappearing completely.
The woman stared at him, wide-eyed. "H-How did you do that?"
Mon didn't answer. He was still trying to process it himself. Instead, he extended a hand, helping her to her feet. "We need to move. It's not safe here."
She nodded, limping as she leaned against him for support. Mon guided her toward an alleyway, his senses on high alert. More monsters were coming, and he needed to test the full extent of his ability.
As they moved through the ruined city, he spotted a broken metal pipe on the ground. He focused, opening a small portal and willing the pipe inside. It vanished instantly. Then, with another thought, he summoned it back, the black void spitting it out into his waiting hand.
"So I can store and retrieve objects at will..." he muttered to himself, gripping the pipe tightly. "This could work."
A group of three more orcs emerged from a nearby collapsed building, their glowing eyes locking onto them. Mon's pulse quickened.
"Stay behind me," he told the woman.
The first orc lunged, swinging a crude club. Mon reacted instantly, opening a portal to swallow the weapon mid-swing. The orc's momentum carried it forward, leaving it completely exposed.
Mon didn't hesitate. He stepped in and swung the pipe with all his strength, smashing it into the creature's knee. The orc howled, collapsing to the ground. Before it could recover, he opened another portal beneath it, sending it into the abyss.
The remaining two orcs hesitated, wary of his strange power.
Mon smirked. "Come on, then. Let's see how much I can store."
The battle had only just begun.
