The backstage door slammed shut behind them and they ran along the length of the tiled hall. Luckily, the crazy students didn't follow them. But Loca kept running, dragging Leo with him.
By all right, Leo was supposed to be scared at what just happened, but he wasn't. He was thrilled. It was a dream come true for him. Back on Earth, he had shared his numerous fantasies with his friends about humans shooting fire, controlling the wind, staring lasers... But all those has been born purely from his fantasies. He loved watching superhuman movies, wishing against wish that he was the one saving people with superhuman strength.
But now, he has experienced just that inside that assembly room. To him, the boy who shot that ball of fire had warmed his heart instead of cooking him. So, he never understood why Loca feared the students so much. Maybe he was just fearing for Leo's life.
Leo needed to know everything now. He was sick of the secrets Loca was keeping from him. Who was that boy with the fire quirk? Does everybody in that hall have fire quirk as well? Why does he have the mind communication quirk? And why is Loca running so hard?
Loca stopped at a very beautiful brown door and barged in with Leo. inside the room, six heads jerked up in surprise at the sudden intrusion. They were sitting round a large square table, each one dressed in neatly tailored green uniforms. They are the academic staff of the academy.
"The kids...they have gone mad. They attacked us," Loca announced as he paced back and forth.
"And let me guess, you don't have the quirk to withstand them." This was a woman's voice. She has beautiful white hair and a beautiful young face. She is probably in her late twenties. "Quirkless men shouldn't be allowed a job as yours."
Loca stopped pacing at once, offended at the woman's insults. "I have a quirk, you foul mouth. And my job for the military is more important than yours. You can't even tend to the kids properly."
"Men with the most useless quirks are the most angry. I feel your pain, Loca. I'll attend to the kids now, sorry for the pain." she stood up from the gathering and went out the door. An angry energy seeped out of her body as she flew past Leo. From the name tag at her chest, he could see that her name was Poal Rosa.
Leo wondered why everybody was pretending he wasn't there. The other staff at the table only looked at Loca like they didn't know who he was. Loca of course didn't care what they thought. He was only relieved that they are here safe after that sudden attack.
Like Rosa said, Loca didn't have a quirk to stop or counter attacks. He only has the mind communication which can only be used with someone who has the same ability. So, to the ones with active quirks, Loca was quirkless since he can't use his quirk in combat. Leo wondered how these kids would perceive him when even a teacher openly discriminated against Loca.
He hasn't gotten to see what Earth looks like after 78 years, but he's getting a little taste of it.
"Mr Luxus, sorry Mr Loca, when are we going back to Earth?" He asked Loca in his mind
"The day after tomorrow. You don't have to prepare much for the journey. Just try to stay away from the other kids for now. If they find out that you don't have an active quirk, they will come after you," Loca replied in his mind also.
"But, Mr Luxus, sorry Mr Loca," Loca rolled his eyes at the constant mistake. "Why did the kids from Earth come to Luxus? And why are they returning after a certain time? And how did humans start having something called quirk? How did I get a quirk?"
These questions were too much for Loca to keep track of. Instead, he sighed outwardly and touched Leo's shoulder. "This is not the time to tell you this. I have to tell you anyway, but I'll tell you everything after we get back to the military base."
Leo was relieved that at last, he'll be hearing the whole gist about what he missed for the whole 78 years he spent in coma. It was then something occurred to Leo. If this was Mr Luxus that warned him about Earth's doom 78 years ago, why has he not aged?
"Mr Loca, was it really you 78 years ago?"
"Yes, why?"
"Did you not age at all?"
"Well, time moves differently on Luxus. While we may have the same number of hours in a single day with Earth, our planet do not orbit the sun in 365 days like yours. It takes more than a thousand days, maybe two thousand, I don't care about astronomy. But I think that's what causes our aging difference. Plus the fact that Luxus is a unique planet with mutagenic attributes. Once an earthling lands on here, his DNA starts acting up."
"What?"
"Guess I've spoken too much. You're supposed to know tomorrow."
"No, Mr Loca. Please tell me," Leo pleaded.
"Okay..."
The door burst open and Rosa walked in with a gust of wind gracing her entry. Her long white hair spread out gracefully over her back, and her eyes only showed white. Leo was half scared at the sight.
"Seems you dealt well with those students, Rosa," Loca joked.
"Please prepare the everything on time and take those filthy earthlings out of here. They've caused so much chaos on this planet." Rosa was angry. As she spoke, a soft wind blew away papers and files that was on the table.
Leo, getting interested with this quirk thingy already discovered that Rosa's quirk was wind control. "Amazing," he blurted out before he could control his tongue.
Rosa's white eyes turned towards him at once, and she wasn't amazing to him any longer. "Is this another of the earthlings? What quirk did you acquire here?"
Loca intervened. "Err, I think you should leave the boy alone for now. We'll get going. I'll be back on the overmorrow to get the kids. Keep your white eyes on them before then. Bye, Rosa. Bye, the remaining staff who forgot how to speak."
Leo almost laughed at Loca's sarcasm. Yes, the other teachers at the table didn't say anything at all throughout. Leo had thought they were dumb.
Loca marched Leo out of the beautiful staff room, and out to the walkway leading to the gate. Once again, they could see the students already lurking in the corners once again, eyeing them and making dangerous signs at them. Loca ignore them completely, careful not to provoke them but Leo couldn't get his eyes away from them. Why are the boys threatening him? He doesn't even know any one of them. Why would someone pick a fight with someone he met for the first time?
"The world has changed, and so much you," Loca's words echoed in his ears again. Maybe he wanted to change as well, and change Earth from the corruption that has colonized it, but he sure doesn't want to change to one of these boys. They look so scary.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he sighted a red-haired boy looking at him with cold eyes. He held his gaze for a while before moving his fingers across his neck, indicating a killing sign while looking at Leo. It was the boy that threw the fireballs at him in the hall. He said he wanted a round with me, why is he now vowing to kill me all of a sudden?
Leo promised to be careful with that one in the nearest future. He looks too dangerous to handle.
They got to the gate and once again, the guard scanned them with his eyes. They stepped outside and the gate barred behind them. He now felt safe from the stares from those students.
Now is the time for anticipation. Loca will tell him all he needs to know tomorrow.
I can't wait.
