In the train, waiting for departure, he remembered what his discussion with his aunt was all about.
___
"You're sick, how do you expect me to leave you all alone here? Who would take care of you?"
Aunt Jin stood chuckling. "You knew?" She asked and Baobao nodded.
"Us? That why you're always rejecting great opportunities because of me?"
She bit down her lower lip trying to hide the tears she has been holding.
Again, he modded.
"Aren't you making me more guilty? That isn't fair you know that? I can't keep on living when I know I was the reason a man like you who should have gone far in life, was trying to let go of his dreams."
"But..."
"I have lots of years to live. Besides, you can come and visit me anytime. And I promise to call you once things get groggy here, okay?
Baobao looked at her with watery eyes, that stung him like hell.
"You promised. You shouldn't break it. Call me once things gets cranky, ok? I'll cross the bridge to get here. No matter what it takes. And I promise to try my best, so that you can live longer than what the doctors anticipated. Just hang in there and wait for me, okay?"
"Mn" she nodded continuously with the teary tone while holding her tears. Baobao also did the same.
He had to look more than twice before completely leaving that shabby crumbled house, they were managing.
_____
Crying so hearty in the apartment he now lives in, he kept wondering what his aunt might be doing. What would she be doing?
Gosh!!!!
That's so hard even for a twenty something years old Baobao.
Distracting himself, he decided to devote his time in the house, cleaning thoroughly multiple times before he was slapped off balance by the mighty hand of his sleepy nature calling him to work.
Getting up as early as usual, got ready and sat on the couch looking at his phone on the table, as if it has offended him sometimes the phone couldn't remember.
If it were a living creature, that object would have died and resurrected more than a hundred times, with the way Baobao looks at it with an upheld hatred.
At the opposite wall, where he sat, the big wall clock, hang, minding its own business, when he faced the poor clock.
Someone please save those poor objects.
Anyone that can help?
Well, that was finally heard when he stood up to go to the shower room to wet his already clean face.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
Poor thing.
"What?"
"Bad friend! How can you leave for Beijing without telling me? I thought we were close for life." The criticizing friend spat.
"Why are you looking for me?"
He was confused. Weren't they the one who joined forces to separate him from his kind sickly aunt.
Such guys!!
He thought.
"Hey, I know what you're thinking about. But like I promised, aunt Jin is here at Feng Wu's house."
"Her house?"
"Hmmm! We do keep our promise. The doctor is looking at her right now. She made me call you to tell you that she is okay, and now being taking care of." LiYang said.
And at that moment, the dreaded thought he had suddenly went to the drain.
All his worries,
His fears,
What he dreaded the most,
Suddenly disappeared as if it wasn't there to begun with.
"Can I talk to her?" He asked, holding a sob.
"No, aunt Jin refuses. She says that she'll be ready when you're back from work. But be sure to expect her call every lunch time. That's the oath she took before she slept."
A pent up breath was just released.
"Alright. Tell her that I'll do just that. I'll wait for her calls." Baobao finally said.
He knew LiYang would take about the unnecessary things, so he just hanged up the call.
-----
Now in the luxurious mansion of a company, he walked straight to the receptionist introducing himself.
As Always, many drooled at this stunning pale skinned man, with a melodious baritone voice.
"Follow me." One lady instructed.
He obeyed and followed her lead.
They got to a particular department. Met a man in his early 30s,
"He's the one to replace Feng Wu." She clarified when that man gave him a curious look.
"Ahh! You can go." He told the lady.
"Yes." She bowed, then remarkably leaving the premises.
The man eyed him from head to toe.
"Name?"
"Wang jie." He answered bowing his head.
"Mr. Xiao isn't here, so, I'll fill you in with his likes and dislikes. With his dos and don'ts.
Baobao wanted to disagree completely. He has no interest in what the man likes or not.
I'm not his lover
His dos and don'ts, he wasn't interested.
I'm just here to earn money. I can gradually learn from the time spent.
But he has no current say to that. He just has to stand there and try to listen, or should we say, pretend to listen.
What has his boss's life has to do with him?
After the most boring speech he has ever heard, he was taken round the whole massive company, to memorize by heart. It was quite an orientation. When they were through with all, he was taken to Feng Wu's office, of which the door behind his seat leads to the CEO's office.
The massive unfinished and yet to do document on the table, gave him a heart attack. But he knows what to do.
Finally, when the blabbermouth has finished saying his piece, he left him to it.
Calming himself was the first thing he did. Before stretching to be ready for the depressed filled documents he has to finish.
He was wise enough to ask him the one his boss would like to attend to. Dealing with those first, he then went on and on to tiredly finishing the document.
On his second to the last document, so deep into work, that he didn't notice the new comer, who has entered almost with an angry thud on the door.
Smiling at himself, when he looked at the table and saw that he was in his last one. Eyes still unblinkingly looking at the finished documents he had worked on.
"Ahem!!" The familiar blabbermouth coughed, gaining his attention.
He looked up to see the new... No, the idolized face of his idol.
Sluggishly standing up, making a 'quack squish' on the floor.
"Mr. Xiao!" He called bowing immediately to him.
"I can see you're busy.* Sean said still surprised.
He remembered that he took a glance at the desk Feng Wu left with flooding task to do. He had planned on working it himself that day, before going to Paris on Saturday, which was two days from then.
He had began to wonder if it was the rejection that made his first and trusted secretary to quit, or if he was rude to her.
Thinking of the massive work in the desk, he woke up that morning with an angry mood. Infact, he had woken up from the wrong side of the bed that day.
But seeing the new person, who was so intrigued. It marveled him.
Wasn't he an amateur? Doesn't he need some help from well experienced people? Why has he finished that work that's frightening in sight?
He had thought so. His mood became pleasing, but he needs to supervise his work to know how well he has done.
"No sir, I'm just trying to help. It's no big deal." The baritone voice, distracted him from his thoughts.
"You must be Wang jie? I've heard a lot about you."
Looking back, dismissing the man that walked in with him.
"How about I supervise you, if it's pleasing in the eye, then, I can fully trust you, with documents like this or, more than that. What do you think?" Sean asked.
Baobao nodded immediately, "I would like to learn from you sir."
"Bring the ones you're through with to my office."
"I will." He said, head still lowered.
Sean entered his office and sat, looking at his files he had to look into.
While Baobao sat prim and proper, finishing his remaining works, before gathering all of them to his boss's office.
In his office, Baobao had pity on his boss. He can sense how tired and eager to sleep he was.
Gently, yet caring he knocked on his table.
"I can help if you want?" He suggested.
"You? I'm not sure if those are correctly prepared.
"I think you're judging a book by its cover. I might not look like it, but I've had so many experiences before." He wasn't lying though.
"These are documents written in English, can you cope with that?" Sean asked.
"Let's do this, review the work and plans I've made, then, I'll carry yours to tackle. It will be lesse stressful. You can sleep when you're done too." He suggested which was tempting.
"I don't sleep at work?" Sean firmly stated. Face solem.
But Baobao smiled. He really did.
"You're eye bags are scary. You can scare a little kid to death..." He paused and realized what he was saying.
"I'm sorry." He apologized.
Sean chuckled. "You're too honest. I like that?"
See, it's not that hard. He had just learned one of his boss's likes, without the blabbermouth saying it. Maybe he did say it, maybe he didn't, what he knows was that, he wasn't paying any attention.
But he knows.
His boss likes to...
Smile
His boss hates..
Liars.
"I'll take that as a compliment sir.
But I'm being serious. The dark circles are really weighing you down. You should nap first. I'll take the rest from here. Trust me." He smiled from ear to ear then, carrying his boss's documents to handle.
"You should prepare. I don't know if you're fluent in French, but English can work. We have businesses to attend there." He said as a matter of fact.
"I know. I was informed. I'll get ready then." Baobao bowed to him and carried the documents off he goes to his seat and plumps down on the cozy chair. Trying to focus on work. Not his aunt.
While inside his office, Sean was surprised that the documents on the table was indeed flawless.
" Well, I'm impressed." He praised the young lad for his intelligence.
Pressing the beep telecom [ I don't know what it's called. But it's usually used in the office when a higher ranked personnel wants to send a message to the person that works under him.]
Outside, his office, Baobao received the message.
"Don't let anyone call or disturb me today. No visitors. Any should wait to the next day, or when ever I decide."
"I'll do just that." Wang jie intercepted. Focusing.
Whilst Sean stretched his limbs resting his head in the desk. But before anything, he assured himself.
"I'm just placing my head. I'm just resting not actually sleeping. I won't sleep. I don't sleep at work."
It was only after reassuring himself did he place his head on the desk.
But who was he kidding?
Bro fell asleep immediately his head touched the desk. He drifted of to wonderland, where he's allowed to explore his dreams of reuniting with his younger twin brother.
