Emily
I jolt upright, gasping in air like I’ve been at the bottom of the ocean. My heart gallops a million miles a minute, and the firelight hurts my eyes. Squinting around the room, I realize I’m laid on the floor right where Annika put me.
“Fuck,” I hiss, my chest heaving.
“Emily?” Hearing my name called like in the vision, I snap around only to see Annika watching me in shock. Her eyes are wide, and she has an arm in front of her as if to fend off an attack. “Are you alright?”
“Um.” I swallow, blinking to get my wits together. “I… hang on.” Lifting my knees, I rock forward over them and put my hands over my face. My skin is cold to the touch. Like, dead body cold. A shiver rakes over me despite the room being warm.
“Fuck,” whisper again.
Why do I feel like I’m about to cry?
It’s not like anything that scary even happened. Hell, whatever that faceless woman was didn’t spook me too badly. So, why is my body doing this?
