Chapter 54: Coming Clean

My eyes blast open and I fling back the blanket, certain that it must be on fire. All I succeed in doing is scattering my notes and sending Tatiana’s book of spells flying across the room. It lands with a thump, and I sit up to press my feet to the cool floorboards.

If I hoped it would help cool me down, I was sorely mistaken. My skin feels like it ought to be covered in blisters, and I shove up my sleeves to find my arms aren’t even red. Rubbing my hand along to feel, I’m caught up by what I see. I can feel everything, but I’m looking at someone else’s hand. It’s surreal, and I have to double down to remind myself that this whole thing is a kind of vision.

“Damnit,” I mutter, surrendering to the fact that the burning sensation isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Not that it’s unmanageable, but it’s damn sure uncomfortable.

Like something is just beneath my skin, boiling to get out. To break free.

And I’ve got no idea what it is.
