Emily
I keep trying to wake up and I can’t. That alone makes this different from the practice runs I did with Annika. When she and I were working, all I had to do to bag out was force myself awake.
No matter how hard I try to peel my eyes open, I’m still here.
The worst part is, my eyes are very much open already. This doesn’t have the dreamlike quality of the other visits. I’m here in a way that is unsettlingly real.
And it looks like it’s gonna stick.
I’m really here in this time—whenever it is. And it looks like I’m stuck as Alita for the foreseeable future. If only I knew the first thing about her.
After Tatiana left last night, I lit every candle in the house and started looking through this library in earnest. Partly to try and figure out just who Tatiana and I are and what she might be asking of me. That’s most of it. But I’m still hoping for anything to tell me about my own situation.
