Chapter 57: The Reckoning

Emily

It’s been days since I’ve heard from anyone. I know I’ve just become used to the Azriel I know, but I have to keep fighting this sense of deep, unbearable betrayal.

Because he wasn’t leaving me alone to fend for myself. He was leaving Alita.

All the same, I’ve been pacing the floors waiting for him to come back for me. In an effort to keep my hands busy, I’ve put the place back together as much as I can. Now that so many things have been ruined, it’s even more spartan than when I first arrived. I’ve managed to shore up the bed, so at least my sleepless nights are slightly more comfortable.

There’s even a part of me that hoped Tatiana would come back. Just march through the door to unspool the strategy she promised. Sure, it’s a long shot, but a girl can hope, right?
