Chapter 66: Little Escape

Emily

I don’t know what it is we’re supposed to be waiting for, but everybody’s tempers are set to ten. Leander drinks all day, which is probably the only thing keeping him from trying to murder Azriel. As if Azriel didn’t hate being among witches already, having a liquored up Leander hanging around has him ready to peel the paint off the walls.

And Thomas is caught in the middle. His even temperament serves him well as a peacemaker, but those two aren’t making it easy.

To make matters worse, members of the coven peer around every corner, watching me like I’m supposed to do backflips or something.

Leander is the same way. Sometimes it’s like he’s avoiding me, but at the same time, he’s almost everywhere I go. Watching me with those damaged, soulful eyes. Imploring me to be someone I’m not or to do something beyond my powers. I could almost swear I’m turning into a ghost before my own eyes.

So it’s nightmares when I’m asleep, and nightmares when I’m awake.
