By mid-morning, everything is arranged. The jet will be waiting on the runway for us to depart, and a contact will be waiting at a private airfield with a secure car to pick us up. A route is mapped to the safehouse, complete with enough detours and double backs that we should be able to spot a tail.
I expect one. To be honest, I’m expecting several. There’s no such thing as perfect confidence. Leaks are part of the game. I trust my eyes and ears in Venice, but I know better than to go in blindly. Trust, but verify.
Once everything is in place, it’s time to seek out Emily. This is the news she’s been waiting for, and I just know she’ll be eager to leap into action.
Perhaps too eager.
This mission has become a personal vendetta for her, and I’ve got this dark fear that she’ll have her vengeance, regardless of the cost. Even if she has to destroy herself in the process.
