Chapter 53: Madison

“Madison, how have you been feeling?” Dr. Lee asked as she came in, peering over her glasses as she walked up to me.

I hesitated, then admitted, “It’s been tough. I can hardly eat anything most of the time.”

Dr. Lee nodded, her pen pausing over the clipboard. “I see,” she murmured, her tone reflecting her concern, but her eyes met mine with a reassuring steadiness. “We’ll just need to monitor you closely from now on, so I will need to see you weekly until we’ve ascertained you’re staying on track healthwise. Morning sickness is quite common in the first trimester, but we must still ensure it doesn’t escalate into hyperemesis gravidarum. Though I’m certain it wouldn’t get to that point, it’s important for you to be aware that if it does, you’ll potentially be required to stay overnight in the hospital for IV treatments to manage dehydration and nutrition.”
