The bathroom filled with the sound of running water, steam fogging up the mirror. I tested the temperature, making sure it was just right before helping Chris step in. He splashed a little, sending toy boats on imaginary voyages across the bubbly sea.
Madison was still sound asleep when it was time to pick him up. Not wanting to wake her, I knew I could do his bedtime routine on my own.
After the bath, I dressed him in his favorite PJs, the ones with the superheroes on them. He was already slowing down, the day’s adventures catching up to him.
Scooping him up, I carried him to his room and tucked him into bed. His eyes were heavy, but he fought the pull of sleep as I started a story about a brave knight and a friendly dragon.
