Unexpectedly, Dashiell, who had long since blocked my number, called.
He immediately launched into a tirade, "Why did you post that kind of comment under Aria's video? Don't you know her depression is already very severe?"
"Why are you trying to provoke her like this? What exactly are your intentions?"
"Juniper, you're truly venomous."
I calmly replied, "Dashiell, do you remember that today is supposed to be our wedding day?"
"When you were accompanying Aria to explore the world and enjoy life, did you even think about the fact that today was meant to be our wedding?"
"Did you consider that my aunt and uncle have been anxiously waiting for news from you?"
"Dashiell, between the two of us, who's really more venomous?"
As I spoke, my tears started flowing freely again, as if they held no value.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone.
Dashiell's voice grew hoarse, "Alright, Juniper, stop making a fuss."
"You know that when Aria's depression gets severe, it can be life-threatening. Now that both her parents are gone, she has no one but me to rely on. Don't hold a grudge against her."
"Once she recovers, I'll come back, and we'll get married. I promise this is the last time, okay?""I've left an apology gift with someone to put in the house. When you see it, I guarantee you'll be satisfied."
There he goes again. After each time Dashiell ditches our wedding, he always leaves me an apology gift as a way of admitting his mistake.
Time after time, those gifts have piled up enough to fill an entire storage room by now.
As if his apology automatically means I'll forgive him.
Dashiell seems to be having a grand old time playing this game of slap after sugar.
Dashiell tried to say more, but Aria's impatient urging could already be heard on the other end of the phone.
I sniffled, "Didn't you lose your memory? How can someone with amnesia remember so many things?"
"Juniper, I knew you loved me the most."
"I'm hanging up now, darling. Love you."
After blowing me a few kisses, Dashiell hurriedly hung up the phone and rushed off to his little childhood sweetheart.
I stared at the phone screen that had long since gone dark, wiped away my tears, and got up to go home.
