Chapter 1

After Caelan's car accident left him disabled, I cared for him for seven whole years.

With meticulous attention and love, I touched his heart.

He gave me the family heirloom jade bracelet.

He swore that once he could stand again, he'd marry me, dedicating his life to repay my devotion.

But his first act upon recovery was to go street racing with his first love.

I rushed to stop them, heavily pregnant, only to be hit by the out-of-control car and miscarry.

While in the hospital, I accidentally overheard Caelan chatting with a friend.

"Goldie's got real feelings for you. It's bad enough you secretly got hitched to Vivienne, but how could you use such a vicious method to make her miscarry?"

Caelan chuckled indifferently,

"The maid's daughter? Just a plaything. She can't compare to Vivienne."

"Letting her stay by my side for seven years was already a blessing for her. As for anything else, she doesn't deserve it."

Caelan gently caressed the marriage certificate in his hand as he spoke these words.

In his eyes was a tenderness I had never seen before.

I stood motionless for a long time.

Until the pain in my heart spread to numbness, I still found it hard to believe the reality before me.

Just yesterday morning, Caelan had laughed as he pressed his head against my belly.

Full of hope, he had said, "It would be wonderful if our daughter were as sweet and beautiful as you."

"When that time comes, we'll surely be the happiest family of three."

It turns out, in the family of three he spoke of,

There was never a place for me.

Lost in thought, I heard my friend's indignant voice.

"Caelan, you can't be so heartless. When you first had your accident, you drove away dozens of caregivers. Even dogs wouldn't look at you. Only Goldie stayed by your side, working tirelessly."

"If you don't like her, if you don't want to marry her, just say so. She's so young and because of you, she can never have children. What's she supposed to do with her future?"

Caelan raised an eyebrow and chuckled.

"Just give her some money. Her mom's a maid, she couldn't earn this much in a lifetime. If anything, she should be thanking Vivienne and me."

"Besides, I'm a germaphobe. Her not being able to get pregnant is perfect. I can't accept a woman I've been with marrying another man and having kids."My friends stormed off, furious.

I stood there stunned, tears streaming down my face.

So this was the man I had loved for my entire youth.

This was the love I had abandoned everything for, rushing towards without hesitation.

Caelan appeared out of nowhere, once again putting on that deeply loving facade.

He slowly walked up to me, taking my ice-cold hands in his.

"Goldie, don't cry."

"I only went to see Vivienne to make a clean break. I never expected this accident to happen. Don't be upset - whether there's a child or not, my feelings for you will never change."

As he spoke, he gently wiped away my tears and pulled me into his embrace.

This scene had appeared countless times in my dreams.

Now that it was finally happening for real, I felt nothing but heartache.

Feelings that never existed, of course, would never change.

I cried silently as Caelan continued:

"I bought you an oceanfront villa. Move there to rest and recover. Don't go out unnecessarily."

"The company keeps me busy, but I'll make time to visit you. Don't worry..."

Before he could finish, his phone rang abruptly.

Caelan glanced at me, then went out to the balcony to take the call.

He was too far away, I could only faintly make out a few words."The wedding date is set for February 6th, with a grand celebration."

After hanging up the phone, Caelan gave me a few perfunctory words before hurriedly leaving.

Not long after, my bank account received five million dollars.

It was from Caelan, with a note saying "Rest well."

At the same time, Vivienne sent me a photo of her and Caelan together.

The caption read, "Happy newlyweds!"

They were holding hands tightly, their bodies pressed close.

On her finger was the diamond ring Caelan had once promised to give me.

I had personally designed the blueprint, and he had spent millions at auction to acquire the center stone.

Back then, he said: "Goldie, thank you for staying by my side when I was at my lowest and most helpless. The world's most expensive diamond isn't as precious as your love."

"I swear, I will never betray this affection you have for me in this lifetime."

Now, looking at the two people in the photo, so intimate and in love, I only felt a sense of irony.

Things that don't belong to me, love that isn't mine.

They all have to be returned eventually.

After all, in Caelan's eyes, a housekeeper's daughter doesn't deserve any of this.

I steadied my breath and called Mother Harrington.

"Mrs. Harrington, I've changed my mind."I choose eighty million dollars and leave Caelan."
