CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Ava returned to work and met with Thompson. As soon as she saw him, he asked, "So, what did the witness say? What happened?"

Ava filled Thompson in on all the details. When she finished, Thompson slammed his hand on the table in frustration.

Thompson and Ava were still discussing their next move when a call came in reporting a murder on down town coaster Street. They quickly sprang into action, with ava heading out with Thompson.

As they arrived at the crime scene, Ava could see the yellow tape cordoning off the area. She flashed her ID card at the police officers present and began to assess the situation.

Ava entered the house with Thompson, and they began assessing the situation. Since she couldn't find Ryan and Ethan back at the station, she assumed they must have gone out to attend to other matters.

Inside the house, they found a dead woman.

Ava and Thompson examined the scene and determined that the woman died from strangulation. They took a few photos and began searching for evidence.

As they investigated further, they realized that the husband was nowhere to be found.

Ava opened the bedroom wardrobe and discovered some drugs. She suspected that the husband might have been under the influence when he committed the crime.

As they continued examining the scene, they couldn't find any significant evidence. However, the few clues they did discover were sufficient for their investigation.

Ava realized they needed to obtain the security footage to investigate further. "We need to check if there are any cameras around," Ava said. "Maybe we can see if the husband fled the scene."

They searched the area and found a camera just outside the house. They quickly located the monitoring room, where they hoped to find footage of the suspect.

As they reviewed the footage, they saw a man running out of the house, looking suspicious. The camera captured his face and movements clearly.

Alva's eyes widened. "That must be the guy."

Thompson nodded. "Let's get a closer look."

Alva quickly grabbed her phone to take a picture of the suspect's face.

Thompson received a call and answered, "Okay, okay." He listened for a moment before responding, "Okay, noted."

After ending the call, Alva asked, "What's going on?"

Thompson smiled. "The suspect has been caught. Let's head back to the station."

Together, they returned to the station.

Ava and Thompson arrived at the station and headed to the interrogation room. Inside, they found the same disheveled man they had seen on the security camera.

Ava turned to Thompson and whispered, "I'll handle the interrogation."

She sat down across from the suspect and began, "Why did you kill your wife?"

Initially, the man remained silent. But when Alva slammed her hand on the table, he started speaking incoherently.

Ava leaned back in her chair, her expression calm and firm. "Tell us, what was the reason behind killing your wife?"

Alva's tone turned stern. "If you don't tell us why you killed your wife, you'll regret it. Why did you kill her?"

The man shook his head, his eyes welling up with tears. "She cheated... she cheated... she cheated."

Alva's expression remained firm. "So, you killed her because she cheated on you?"

She glanced at Thompson, then back at the suspect. "Do you have any children?"

The man remained silent.

Thompson spoke up, "We need to get the witnesses and neighbors in for questioning. Maybe they can provide some evidence."

Alva nodded. "Okay, no problem. Let's get the neighbors in and see if they noticed anything suspicious."

Two women from the neighborhood were brought in for questioning. Ava and Thompson took them to the interrogation room and began asking questions.

One of the women spoke up, "We always heard noises coming from their house - a woman crying, and a man beating and shouting at her."

The other woman added, "They're a newlywed couple, and they just moved into our neighborhood. They don't have any kids yet."

Ava asked, "Do you know of any reason why the husband would want to kill his wife?"

The women shook their heads, "No, we don't know. We just know they were always fighting and shouting."

Thompson pressed on, "Why didn't you report this to the police? Why didn't you call for help?"

The women remained silent, looking down, avoiding eye contact.

Ava turned to the women and said, "Thank you, your information was very helpful."

After the women left, Ava turned to Thompson and asked, "What's our next move?"

Thompson's expression was stern. "We'll put the husband behind bars. I don't see any justification for killing an innocent woman."

Ava nodded in agreement. "Case closed."

Ava left the interrogation room and spotted Ethan standing at the corner of the station. She walked over to him and asked, "Where's Ryan?"

Ethan replied, "One of the chiefs called him in for a task."

Ava raised an eyebrow. "And where did you two disappear to earlier?"

Ethan chuckled nervously. "Ryan wanted to show me something, so I tagged along."

Alva wearily sat down and looked up at ethan. "Can you please get me a cup of coffee?"

Ethan smiled. "At your service."

He then headed off to get her a cup of coffee.

Ava's phone rang, and she answered. "Hey, girl!" Kira's voice chimed in.

"Hey, Kira. I'm so tired," Ava replied.

Kira asked, "When are you coming back? I'm bored without you."

Ava sighed. "Soon, I hope. I just need to wrap up some cases here."

Kira said, "Okay, fine. See you soon," and ended the call.

Ethan returned with ava's coffee. She took a sip and closed her eyes, savoring the flavor. "Oh, so refreshing."
