Liang Shang’s Phone Call

As the phone rang, Gu Chuyin's dim eyes brightened a little.

But when she saw the unfamiliar number, her heart sank, and an unexplainable irritation welled up inside her.

She frowned but still picked up the phone.

"Who is this?"

"Hello, is this Boss Gu's residence?" A clean and gentle male voice came through the receiver, polite and pleasant.

Hearing this familiar voice, Gu Chuyin glanced at the number, it was a landline she didn't recognize.

"Yes, what do you want?"

"Well, I'm Liang Shang, a sophomore this year. I heard your factory is hiring summer workers. May I ask when would be a good time to apply?"

The warm and orderly voice reached her ears, but Gu Chuyin's whole body trembled.

She even forgot to breathe for a moment.

Liang Shang?

Was it that Liang Shang from her memories? The one she had been discussing marriage with?

Suddenly, memories came crashing down like a tidal wave, almost overwhelming her.

"Hello? Are you still there?"

The voice on the other end was still warm and clear, but it lacked the maturity of the man she once knew.

Instead, there was a bit more youthful energy.

Beep beep beep…

Gu Chuyin hung up directly.

She stared at the landline phone on the table, her chest rising and falling rapidly as her breath quickened.

She didn't expect that she wouldn't be able to contact herself… but instead, she ended up calling Liang Shang.

Her mind was in chaos, and she hadn't even sorted out her thoughts when the door to the living room opened, and footsteps echoed in.

"Electricity is free now? Are you blind to leave such a big light on? Is eating all you know how to do?"

Fang Wenxiang's sharp voice broke the silence in the room.

Behind her, Gu Cheng followed, his face showing signs of exhaustion and mild impatience at her nagging.

"You scold her every day, but has she changed at all? What's the point? Just prepare some gifts and apologize to them tomorrow morning with a red envelope."

Gu Cheng, in his forties, still had a handsome appearance.

Though there were traces of aging on his face, his youthful charm could still be seen.

He glanced at Gu Chuyin but quickly looked away, shaking his head.

He didn't even ask about the wound on her forehead.

"I told you before to send her away, but you insisted on keeping her. Now she's causing trouble, and I have to clean up after her! At least raising a pig means you get meat, what can she do?"

The living room was filled with tension again.

Fang Wenxiang's sharp voice was grating, and it reminded Gu Chuyin of the original owner's memories.

The original owner had been used to hearing this kind of scolding since childhood.

All kinds of emotions had built up inside her, but she had never dared to speak up.

Gu Chuyin didn't want to hear any more. She turned around and walked toward her room.

"Look at you now! Not only did you hit your classmates, but you don't even want to listen to me anymore. You really think you can do whatever you want?"

Back in the cramped bedroom, Gu Chuyin looked around at the unfamiliar environment, listening to the argument outside.

It felt like too much.

She had just opened her eyes to find that not only had her identity changed, but her entire living environment had also turned upside down.

Everything she had worked so hard for in her past life was gone.

Now, she had an ugly body, no money, and no future.

In her past life, even though she had started with nothing, she was beautiful and had an enchanting figure.

She could still make money as a fitting model in her free time.

But now… how was she supposed to earn money?

Lost in thought, Gu Chuyin slowly drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, she was woken up by yelling.

Early in the morning, Fang Wenxiang's sharp voice echoed through the house.

As soon as she sat up, Gu Chuyin heard the rumbling of her stomach.

This body was sluggish, always sleepy, and not very agile.

On top of that, it got hungry way too quickly.

She looked down at her own body, layers of belly fat, wrapped in a T-shirt several sizes too big.

Gu Chuyin, who had always been beautiful, felt disgusted by her current appearance.

She got up and clumsily washed up.

When she looked at herself in the mirror, her stomach churned. She almost gagged at her own reflection.

"Big fat pig! Big fat pig! Even I can't stand looking at myself," she muttered.

A mocking voice came from behind.

It was Gu Yidong, the original owner's younger brother.

Gu Yidong was sixteen and had just started high school.

Spoiled by their parents, he was a little troublemaker who feared nothing.

His favorite pastimes were playing video games and hanging out at gambling arcades.

His weekly allowance was more than enough to cover a month's worth of Gu Chuyin's breakfast expenses.

Memories of him flashed through her mind, but Gu Chuyin just glanced at him sideways and didn't bother responding.

Seeing her reaction, Gu Yidong quickly lost interest and went straight to his mother, Fang Wenxiang.

"Mom, I'm going out with my friends today. Give me some money," he said.

"Come back early, and don't stay out too late," Fang Wenxiang replied, pulling out a handful of cash from her bright red purse without even counting it.

Gu Yidong happily sat on the couch and counted the money.

He didn't even bother eating breakfast before running out the door.

After breakfast, Fang Wenxiang grabbed the prepared gift bags and walked outside to their only car, a Xia Li.

Owning a car in this era was a big deal, even if it was just a Xia Li. The only problem?

Gu Chuyin was too big to fit inside.

Rolling her eyes, Fang Wenxiang sneered. "You can walk there yourself. We'll wait for you at the school gate. And listen to me, no matter what they say, you better apologize properly. If you cause any more trouble, I'll skin you alive!"

With that, Fang Wenxiang and Gu Cheng drove off, leaving Gu Chuyin to walk to the school.

When she arrived, she saw Fang Wenxiang chatting happily with a wealthy-looking couple near a luxury car.

Standing beside them was Wan Jiajia.

The moment Wan Jiajia spotted her, she pointed at Gu Chuyin and shouted, "It's her! She bullied me in the restroom yesterday!"

"I'm really sorry," Fang Wenxiang quickly said, forcing a smile. "She's a useless girl who's only good at eating. She's as dumb as a pig. I gave her a good scolding last night."

She shot Gu Chuyin a meaningful glance, signaling her to come over.

Gu Chuyin walked forward, her expression calm. She met their gazes directly, without any fear or guilt.

Her reaction was completely different from what they had expected.

The wealthy couple exchanged glances and began sizing her up carefully.
