Chapter 6: Small Goals

The next morning, Noah woke up feeling refreshed.

Even though he had spent the whole night reading and gathering magic in the system library, his body had actually been resting. He read during the first half of the night and meditated in the second half, leaving his mental state unusually sharp.

"It's just too little. I hope I can double the time in my system space."

After quickly washing up, Noah noticed that his roommates were also getting up.

Today was the first day of class, and no one dared to be late. Who wouldn't want to leave a good first impression on their teachers?

Well, except for the famous Mr. Potter, right?

Noah recalled that Harry Potter and Ron Weasley had been late for class on their first day!

As for the reason, it was probably because Harry had been too excited to sleep all night, and in his bad luck, he ended up dragging Ron down with him.

To make matters worse, while the Heads of Houses at Hogwarts cared about their own students winning the House Cup, none of them would go as far as to sabotage other houses or show blatant favoritism.

At the same time, they wouldn't cover up their students' mistakes either. As a result, Harry and Ron were severely punished by their Head of House, Professor McGonagall, and even lost a considerable number of points for Gryffindor.

The History of Magic class was, unsurprisingly, all about the history of the wizarding world. The material was relatively dry, but Noah found himself listening with great interest.

Understanding the history of a world was crucial for him—especially since he was still an outsider here.

If someone asked him about the future, he might be able to talk for hours. But if they asked him to comment on the past? He would probably be at a loss.

Noah firmly believed that a true magician wasn't just someone with powerful spells but also someone with deep knowledge and understanding of magic.

He had no intention of becoming an ignorant wizard. That would be far too embarrassing.

By the end of class, Noah was surprised to find that he had absorbed everything with ease. His memory seemed to have improved significantly.

Today's lesson had covered the history of the Goblin Rebellions. Noah had only read the book once, and with the professor's explanation, he had memorized all of it!

That wasn't something he had expected.

"Is this a benefit from the system? Or is it a special ability gained after becoming a wizard?"

Noah scratched his head and quickly attributed it to the system.

After all, Harry and Ron were both wizards too, yet their academic performance was abysmal. Without Hermione's help, they would have struggled to even graduate.

"Damn it, History of Magic is just like the slugs in Binns' office—long and boring. And the worst part? We have to memorize everything!"

After class, the dormitory group gathered together, and Evan voiced his complaints.

To be fair, History of Magic wasn't exactly a fan-favorite subject. One look at the dull expressions of the Hufflepuff students was enough to confirm that.

"Alright, stop complaining, Evan. This is a required class. What's the point of whining about it? I bet you'll be able to recite everything in the end anyway."

Lance shrugged indifferently. Complaints were fine, but Ravenclaw students wouldn't let a bit of grumbling stop them from studying.

Curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge were the hallmarks of Ravenclaw. If someone couldn't handle basic memorization, then they really had no right to call themselves a Ravenclaw.

"Noah, how was your first class?" Kenn turned to him, her tone curious. Since Noah was the only Muggle-born in their dormitory, they were all particularly attentive to how he was adapting.

"Don't worry. It was pretty easy for me, don't you think?" Noah grinned. It really had been simple, though he decided not to elaborate on how easily he had memorized everything.

As they casually chatted and prepared to leave the classroom, they unexpectedly ran into Harry and Ron—both of whom looked rather grim.

Noah's dorm mates still had a good impression of the two. It was hard not to—Harry was incredibly famous, and Ron was often seen as Harry's sidekick.

"What's with their expressions?" Evan muttered, puzzled. It was only the first day of school.

"Maybe they got into trouble. Who knows?" Noah replied nonchalantly. Even if he knew the reason, he wasn't about to say it.

According to the schedule, the afternoon class was Transfiguration—Professor McGonagall's subject.

Transfiguration was a branch of magic focused on changing the form or appearance of an object. The course covered a variety of spells, including:

The Transformation Spell, which altered a part of an object (like making someone grow rabbit ears).

The Vanishing Spell, which could make an object disappear entirely.

The Conjuration Spell, which allowed one to summon objects seemingly from thin air.

At advanced levels, Transfiguration could even turn inanimate objects into living ones—and vice versa!

It was an incredibly powerful branch of magic, and Noah was highly interested in it.

However, as for Animagus transformation, Noah wasn't as eager.

He had no idea what he would turn into. If he ended up as a dog, like Sirius Black, it wouldn't be particularly exciting.

"If I could turn into a dragon or something, that would be much better. But… in this world, dragons aren't exactly a good thing."

Noah scratched his head, then followed his roommates to grab a meal before returning to their dormitory.

For Noah, this simple routine brought back memories of his student days in his past life.

Compared to other reincarnators, he felt that his life here was relatively peaceful and uneventful.

And honestly? That was a good thing.

He had no intention of stirring up unnecessary trouble.

"I'm not Harry Potter. Getting involved in all sorts of messes isn't my thing. I just need to focus on studying… and once I'm strong enough, then I'll think about the future."

With that thought in mind, Noah lay down on his bed, closed his eyes, and once again entered the system library.

Looking at the countless books before him, he let out a sigh.

The road ahead of him was long and arduous.

Picking up a book, he sat down to read, determined to follow his plan—study first, then practice magic.

He had set a goal for himself long ago: to reach at least a first-level proficiency before the end of the semester.

"That's not too ambitious, right? As long as I work hard, I should be able to pull it off."

With that thought, Noah immersed himself in his studies once more.
