When Noah and the others arrived at the classroom, they found it already packed with students.
Charms class was structured like an open class, meaning all students of the same year attended together.
However, unlike regular open classes, which were mostly elective courses, Charms was a core subject—one of the fundamental branches of magic. The credits for this class were quite high.
Following Evan and the others, Noah quickly found the designated seating area for Ravenclaw students. This was their first large group lesson.
The first two months at Hogwarts were primarily about letting the first-years adjust to their new environment. After all, Hogwarts was massive, and even finding your way around was a challenge.
Moreover, many first-years came from Muggle families, like Harry and Hermione, so the school had to consider their situation as well.
For that reason, the curriculum in the first two months focused on surface-level knowledge, helping students build a basic magical foundation. But now that everyone had settled in, it was time to start the real lessons.
And Charms was one of the most important subjects.
No matter how powerful a wizard was, they couldn't perform magic without spells.
If a wizard was unable to cast spells, they were essentially powerless—their wand would be no different from an ordinary stick.
Professor Filius Flitwick stood atop a pile of books at the front of the classroom. He was very short, and only by stacking books could he reach the desk properly.
But no one in their right mind would dare laugh at Professor Flitwick.
Despite his comical appearance—especially when he excitedly toppled off his books while calling Harry Potter's name during roll call—his magical prowess was undeniable.
This seemingly amusing little professor would one day defeat the notorious Death Eater, Antonin Dolohov!
"He'd be more impressive if he wasn't so excitable," Evan muttered, watching the scene with secondhand embarrassment.
Kenn and Lance had similar expressions, and most of the Ravenclaw students looked equally speechless.
Since they had arrived late, they could only sit somewhere in the middle—not too close to the front to attract attention, but not so far back that they couldn't see clearly.
Noah rather liked this spot.
"Maybe he's just an emotional person? I heard he's naturally sensitive," Noah said thoughtfully, stroking his chin.
"He is emotional, but isn't this a bit embarrassing?" Lance sighed.
"Alright, that's enough, guys. Class is about to start," Kenn finally interrupted.
Indeed, Professor Flitwick had already completed roll call.
Even though this was a large class, since there were no House divisions, the students cooperated well, and roll call took only a few minutes.
The lesson officially began.
---
Many elements of Charms required hands-on practice.
A student could read a spell, learn the proper wand movements, and memorize the theory behind it—but without practical application, it was all meaningless.
Probably to accommodate the new students, Professor Flitwick spent the first half of class emphasizing why Charms was essential.
Then, he gave a demonstration.
The professor skillfully cast:
The Severing Charm (Diffindo)
The Mending Charm (Reparo)
The Levitation Charm (Wingardium Leviosa)
Finally, he began teaching the students how to perform the Levitation Charm.
"This spell allows objects to float in midair for a few seconds," he explained.
He also taught them the fundamental technique of channeling magic through their wands.
At first, Noah listened with great interest.
He even watched closely as Professor Flitwick performed the spells.
But when they got to the practice session, Noah lost interest.
The Levitation Charm?
He had already learned it from The Encyclopedia of Magic in the system space.
In fact, Noah had mastered it ages ago.
So, when the other students excitedly grabbed their wands and attempted to lift the feathers on their desks, Noah just sat there, propping his head up and staring off into space.
"Noah, why aren't you trying it?" Evan quickly noticed his lack of enthusiasm.
While everyone else was eagerly waving their wands and shouting incantations, Noah was the only one just sitting there daydreaming.
That was bound to attract attention.
"Huh? Oh, nothing," Noah replied with a casual smile. "I was just thinking about the elements Professor Flitwick mentioned earlier."
If I actually cast the spell properly, you guys would probably be terrified, Noah thought with amusement.
Still, he knew he couldn't stand out too much—it wasn't wise to draw unnecessary attention.
So, with a sigh, he reluctantly took out his wand.
His wand wasn't anything particularly special, but it wasn't a hand-me-down like Ron's, either.
It was nine inches long, made of nanmu wood, with a core of Siberian white wolf nerve.
It was neither rare nor powerful—just an average wand.
During his trip to Ollivanders, he had quickly found a suitable wand without much effort. There was no dramatic burst of light or showy magic reaction—just a simple match.
Shaking his head slightly, Noah decided to just go through the motions for now.
But just as he was about to begin, a small figure suddenly appeared in front of his desk.
"Mr. Finniel, are you having trouble?"
Professor Flitwick's kind voice startled Noah.
The entire class turned to look at him.
"Uh… I think I'm fine," Noah said awkwardly.
To make matters worse, the entire room had gone silent.
All eyes were now on him.
Professor Flitwick might not have been a tall, imposing figure, but his spellcasting skills and prestigious reputation meant he always commanded attention.
Especially now, when many students were struggling with their spells.
Naturally, they were eager to receive the professor's guidance.
"Oh? Really?" Professor Flitwick smiled. "What do you think of this spell, then?"
The small professor was keeping an eye on Noah.
Since Noah was in his House, he knew about his background—and because Noah was born a Muggle, Flitwick paid extra attention to him.
Professor Flitwick was, without a doubt, a dedicated teacher who genuinely cared about his students.
"It's not that difficult," Noah said after a moment. "As long as you focus on the details and control your magic properly, someone should be able to do it soon."
Noah glanced at Hermione—he remembered that she had been the first to master the spell in the books.
"Oh? Is that so?"
Professor Flitwick seemed intrigued.
After a brief pause, he smiled expectantly.
"Then, could you give it a try?"
Noah didn't answer right away.
He had wanted to keep a low profile, but…
Everyone had a contradictory nature—part of him didn't want to stand out, but another part wanted to show off a little.
Besides, if Professor Flitwick personally requested it, why refuse?
"Maybe this will earn me some perks in the future," Noah thought.
With a gentle wave of his wand, he clearly pronounced the incantation:
"Wingardium Leviosa."
In an instant, the feather on Noah's desk rose smoothly into the air.
It floated effortlessly, perfectly balanced—a flawless execution.
All around him, students gasped in astonishment.
Noah simply smiled.
"Well, that should do it."
