"What kind of magic is this?"
Harry swallowed hard, staring at the troll writhing on the ground in agony. A half-meter-long gash on its chest oozed thick, green blood. He felt a chill run down his spine.
Not just him—every student, including Evan and the others, was utterly stunned by Noah's terrifying magic!
What was this? A spell capable of injuring a troll so severely? Were they dreaming?
Noah didn't look too well, but not because he was worried about drawing unnecessary attention. The problem was that Sectumsempra had drained almost all of his magical energy!
Speaking of this spell, Noah had the Room of Requirement to thank. Many of the spells he had learned through the system library did not belong to the standard Hogwarts curriculum. Especially offensive spells—ones that could rival the Unforgivable Curses in sheer lethality.
Noah had wanted to show off his skills, but he didn't want to cause trouble. The best way to do that was to use a spell that already existed within Hogwarts.
He had found The Half-Blood Prince's notes in the Room of Requirement and had carefully studied their contents. That was how he had learned Sectumsempra.
"It's a spell for advanced students," Noah finally said, catching his breath and putting away his wand. "It's called Sectumsempra."
The spell's drain was overwhelming, but Noah was pleased with its effect. He had reason to believe that as his magical proficiency increased, the burden would lessen. Perhaps, by the time he reached second year, he could use it effortlessly.
That was a thought for the future. Right now, his attention shifted to Hermione, who was still frozen in shock, and to Evan and the others, who were visibly excited.
"I think we should leave," Noah suggested. "The professors are looking for the troll. If they find us here, it'll be hard to explain."
"Yeah, and if Ravenclaw's dormitory password gets changed because of this, we're doomed!" Lance muttered. "But Noah, you have to show us that spell again later…"
"No problem," Noah agreed. "I was looking for a Potions book and found a notebook. The spell was in there."
"That's amazing!"
As they talked, Noah and the others began walking out.
As for the three Gryffindors they left behind, Noah was the only one who spared them a second thought. The others didn't care much.
If they were fine, great. But knowing those little lions, they might even turn around and claim that Noah and his friends had stolen their spotlight.
Unfortunately, just as they stepped outside, they walked right into Professor McGonagall—accompanied by Professor Snape and Professor Quirrell.
Immediately, they felt a sinking feeling in their stomachs.
Especially Kenn and Lance, who couldn't believe their luck. If only they had left a few minutes earlier!
"Oh my goodness!" Professor McGonagall gasped, taking in the scene. "What in the world happened here? You'd better explain yourselves!"
"Uh…" Noah hesitated, about to come up with an excuse. But before he could, Hermione suddenly stepped forward.
"It's all my fault, Professor McGonagall," she said firmly.
"Miss Granger?" McGonagall blinked in surprise. Hermione was one of her most intelligent students. She hadn't expected her to admit to wrongdoing so readily.
"I went looking for the troll," Hermione continued, her voice steady. "I thought I could handle it. I was wrong. If Noah and the others hadn't arrived in time, I might have been killed."
"Oh, for heaven's sake!" McGonagall looked utterly exasperated. "Hermione Granger, I cannot believe you would do something so foolish! You have completely disappointed me!"
She sighed, visibly relieved that none of them had been hurt. If anything had happened to them, how would she explain it to their parents?
Just as McGonagall was about to announce the punishment, Snape's cold voice cut through the air:
"Professor McGonagall, a moment. Look at the troll's chest."
McGonagall turned, frowning. Then she froze.
Trolls were notoriously tough creatures, with extraordinary healing abilities. Yet the gaping wound on its chest wasn't healing at all. That was simply unheard of.
A thought flashed through McGonagall's mind.
Dark magic.
Yes, only dark magic could inflict wounds that a troll couldn't regenerate from. She focused on the gash and indeed sensed a lingering dark aura.
Her face hardened. She turned to Snape. "Do you recognize this magic?"
"Yes," Snape replied grimly, his sharp eyes scanning the students. Then, in his usual slow, deliberate tone, he said, "It is my spell. Sectumsempra."
"What?!"
Ron blurted it out without thinking. He had overheard Noah and the others discussing it earlier, and now he was horrified.
But the second the words left his mouth, he realized his mistake.
He clamped his hands over his mouth, but it was too late.
Every professor's eyes snapped toward him. Harry and Hermione stared at him, as if begging him to shut up.
Snape's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Mr. Weasley," he said, voice dripping with contempt, "I highly doubt that you cast this spell."
Ron gulped. "Y-yeah…"
"I did, Professor Snape," Noah admitted, stepping forward.
Snape studied him for a long moment. Then, to everyone's shock, he nodded slightly.
"I'm not surprised," Snape said, his expression unreadable. "But I am curious… how did you learn my magic?"
"I—"
"Wait," McGonagall interrupted before Noah could answer.
Turning to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, she said, "Miss Granger, for your reckless behavior, Gryffindor will lose five points. As for you two"—she looked at Harry and Ron sternly—"consider yourselves lucky. If Noah and the others hadn't interfered, you wouldn't be standing here. Now, go back to your dormitory."
She then turned back to Noah.
"As for you," McGonagall said, her expression softening slightly. "We're going to Dumbledore's office. All four of you."
