Noah never imagined that he would actually learn how to deal with Voldemort's living Horcruxes.
Not only did he understand it, he used that knowledge and nearly wiped out a horde of Dementors in one go!
The realization made Noah feel like an utter fool, no, a hopeless one.
Thinking back, when he defeated the Dementors, didn't he simply kick their souls out of their physical shells?
Even if the things cloaked in rags were technically "bodies," that's what Noah did.
Harry's condition was eerily similar. His soul was intact, self-aware, and hadn't yet been corrupted by Voldemort's influence, at least for now.
Voldemort's soul fragment must've just been hiding deep within, meaning there was still a chance for Noah to force it out directly.
If he could do that carefully enough, Voldemort's connection to Harry would be severed entirely.
Harry was possibly the last viable vessel for Voldemort's resurrection, and also the most hidden one. So if Noah destroyed the soul fragment inside him, it could very well be the end of Voldemort, once and for all.
"In the original story, Voldemort killed Harry, and in doing so, also destroyed the last piece of his soul, his final Horcrux. That led to his downfall. But Harry had the halo of destiny, the three Deathly Hallows, and the guidance of Dumbledore's soul... tsk tsk."
Noah stroked his chin thoughtfully. All in all, Voldemort died a rather pitiful death.
Even after death, he wasn't granted peace. His body was left in a chamber off the Great Hall, and his shattered soul was trapped in limbo, unable to pass on or even become a ghost.
It was tragic... but Noah always felt Voldemort deserved worse.
If he was going to die so pitifully anyway, wasn't it better to let him go out fully and finally this year?
Still, this type of soul magic was delicate. If he made a mistake, if he damaged Harry's soul or let Voldemort seize control, Dumbledore and Snape would absolutely kill him.
Noah frowned. He wasn't particularly good at using this magic yet, even though the Ancient One had taught him thoroughly.
But no matter how talented Noah was, or how skilled the Ancient One, there was no defeating time.
Most of the past two months had been spent mastering space magic, which was complex and mind-bending enough to give him migraines.
So when it came to soul magic, his grasp was... lackluster. Even the Ancient One hadn't commented on his progress.
But then Noah's eyes lit up.
He suddenly remembered, Voldemort had a living Horcrux.
Nagini. The snake.
Speaking of Nagini, how pitiful.
The first time Noah saw her was in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Back then, she had been stunning. A cursed human, afflicted with a blood malediction that would eventually turn her into a permanent snake. Tragically, she had already fully transformed.
To be honest, Noah felt guilty thinking about experimenting on her. But in the end, there weren't many other choices.
There were only two living beings carrying fragments of Voldemort's soul, Harry and Nagini.
"If she survives the process, maybe I can find a way to save her. And if not, well... it's not impossible to bring her to Kamar-Taj."
It was a cruel decision, but a practical one.
Noah pitied Nagini. But Harry was part of the Mage Alliance now, and that made Noah responsible for his well-being.
"Alright. I think Mr. Lupin is stable now."
Just as Noah was reflecting on life and magic, the voice of the Ancient One brought him back.
Looking up, he saw that the black smoke had stopped flowing from Lupin's mouth. A fist-sized glob of black, viscous soul matter floated in the air, and the golden magic around Lupin slowly faded away.
"Ahh, !"
The Ancient One released her spells, including the Mirror Dimension, as she spoke.
Lupin, who was mid-cry, couldn't stop himself in time. The tail end of his scream came out awkwardly.
Moments later, he realized the pain had vanished. His body was still numb, but the unbearable agony was gone.
He almost collapsed in relief, Snape caught him just in time, but true to form, offered no comfort. He just let go once Lupin could stand.
"Here, have some tea. I didn't know your preferences, so there's no honey, but anything warm should help. Except alcohol, of course."
"Thank you."
Lupin gratefully took the cup from the Ancient One and downed it all in one go.
To others, it may have seemed like he was just screaming under a light for a while, but to him, it had felt like an eternity of torment. His throat was hoarse from the strain.
"This tea has restorative effects. Let him rest ten minutes, he'll be back to normal."
The Ancient One nodded after observing him, then turned to the floating black soul goo. Without so much as glancing at it, she raised her hand. A burst of fire ignited in midair and incinerated it completely, leaving no trace.
"You can now enjoy moonlight without fear. You'll no longer transform into a werewolf."
"Really? Respected Sorcerer Supreme?"
"Of course. You might still be able to catch a flight to England now, but since you mentioned New York... it should be midnight there. You've got time."
"Thank you, thank you so much, Sorcerer Supreme!"
Tears welled in Lupin's eyes. This had haunted him most of his life.
And of course, he didn't forget Noah, none of this would've happened without him.
"Well, that's my part done." The Ancient One turned to leave but looked at Noah before disappearing. "I won't test you this time, but next time, expect one. Don't disappoint me, Noah."
"I'll keep working hard," Noah said with a wry smile. A strict teacher produces great students, right?
The Ancient One nodded, and in an instant, she vanished, relieving both Snape and Lupin.
Despite her kindness, they could never forget she was the Sorcerer Supreme, the most powerful mage on Earth.
"You two are seriously overreacting. She's a wonderful person," Noah muttered.
"Easy for you to say, you're her apprentice!" Lupin shot back. "The Sorcerer Supreme! I doubt you were calm when you met her for the first time!"
For once, Lupin raised his voice and started checking his body again.
Snape ignored the commotion and said calmly, "It seems the Sorcerer Supreme values you greatly. I suppose we'll need to supervise you more closely so you don't slack off and embarrass our school."
"Hah. Keep it up and I'll drag you both back to Hogwarts and let Lupin test if moonlight still affects him."
Noah grinned.
"No need to do that," Snape said dryly, raising his wand.
In an instant, the room went dark and a full moon appeared, floating in the air.
"What the hell, Severus?!" Lupin jumped, about to flee, but stopped. He stared at the moon.
No transformation.
Snape turned away. "Enough games. Noah, about that question you asked the Sorcerer Supreme. You noticed something about Harry too, didn't you?"
"I did. First it was the Parseltongue, and now... it's his magic."
"You've studied that type of magic?"
"A bit. I'm not confident though. I'm afraid I might accidentally eject Harry's soul instead of Voldemort's."
"That would be... problematic. What do you need? How can I help?"
"I remember Voldemort had a snake. Nagini, right?"
Snape nodded. He was mildly surprised Noah knew that, but it made sense. Voldemort's secrets were half-known, half-feared.
Nagini had been with him for a long time. It wouldn't be strange if Voldemort had made her a Horcrux.
And as an experimental subject, she was ideal.
"I'll handle the snake. Leave that to me," Snape said firmly.
"Of course. I can't just leave Hogwarts on a whim."
"Oh? And yet you're always disappearing. Maybe I should search your dorm to confirm if you're on campus."
"Hey! You're the head of Slytherin! You can't just walk into Ravenclaw dorms! I swear, I'm reporting this to Professor Flitwick! We should ban Professor Snape from entering our tower!"
