Chapter 1

My best friend sent me a wedding invitation, coincidentally for the same day as mine.

Upon closer inspection, I realized we were marrying into the same family.

However... I was marrying the older one, and she was marrying the younger one.

"Your taste is awful, how could you go for an old geezer?"

"Your taste isn't any better. At least the old man is healthy. The sickly one you're marrying might kick the bucket any day now."

After marrying in, we discovered that this family's harmonious facade masked a cesspool of filth.

It wasn't until we found hundreds of women's corpses in the basement that we realized this was all just a plot against us.

————————

"I'm getting married, and this is the wedding invitation."

"Remember we said we'd be each other's bridesmaids? Well, guess what, you're the only one I've invited."

Looking at the invitation Melody handed me, I was at a loss for words.

"I... I might not be able to attend."

Hearing my response, Melody's eyes widened in disbelief, seemingly surprised by my refusal.

"Because... I'm also getting married that day."

Similarly, I pulled out a wedding invitation, nearly identical to the one in Melody's hand.

"Damn it, how come you're getting married too? We've somehow landed on the same day."

"It might not just be the same day. The person you're marrying... seems to be my husband's... son."

The expression on my face was priceless. I had just opened my best friend's invitation and taken a glance; the name on it was clearly my husband's son's, and they were even holding the ceremony in the same hall.

"What... what were you thinking? I heard that old fellow is over sixty, and you're only twenty!"

"Have you lost your mind? Why would you make such a decision? Don't tell me you're after his money too?"

Melody looked at me with utter disappointment written all over her face. But she was right, this family was indeed very wealthy.

Not just ordinary wealthy.

"You're one to talk. I've heard that his son is in poor health, bedridden most of the time. Who knows when he might kick the bucket."

"His father may be older, but his physical condition is miles better in comparison."

"If you marry him, aren't you afraid you'll end up a widow right after the wedding?"

I felt somewhat exasperated, but...

"Could it be... you're also after their money?"

I cautiously probed, finding this guess more and more reasonable the more I thought about it.

After all, this household wasn't just ordinarily rich.

It's said that even their housekeeper carries gold when going out to buy groceries, let alone the father and son, Garrison and Wylie, as the masters of the house.

Their family fortune would rank high even on a global scale. Most importantly, they had no mistress of the house.

Garrison, as the father, had reportedly lost his wife not long ago.

And Wylie, due to his frail health, had never married.

We weren't sure what kind of dumb luck we'd stumbled upon to be chosen as their marriage partners."That's fantastic! Now we'll be marrying into the same family, so we can still be together often."

Melody, with her sweet features and charming demeanor, beamed with joy at the knowledge that we were to be wed into the same household.

To be honest, I'm feeling quite excited about it too.

Originally, I was set to marry an old fellow. Fearing her opposition, I had chosen to tell her only the day before the wedding.

Who would have thought reality would play such an enormous prank on us?
