Chapter 5

Received notification, Melody came down quickly.

Garrison had thoughtfully found us a room on the fifth floor, right between their rooms.

The moment I saw Melody, I noticed the fear in her eyes. I knew she must have encountered something.

I gave her a knowing look, and we entered the room.

The room was spotlessly clean, with even the bedding freshly changed, emitting a faint, pleasant fragrance.

As soon as the door closed behind us, Melody grabbed my hand tightly, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Damn it, did we just get conned?" she blurted out.

"As soon as I got back to the room, Wylie started taking off his clothes. I thought things were moving too fast and wanted to refuse. But then I saw Wylie's back – it was covered in bloody marks, still dripping blood."

"It wasn't just his back. There wasn't a spot on his body that wasn't injured. He looked like a piece of rotten meat. How is he even alive?"

Melody's voice was full of distress, clearly traumatized by what she had just witnessed.

I quickly tried to comfort her while my mind raced with thoughts.

How could a pampered young master have so many injuries? Who would dare to beat him?

It must have been his father. Only he would dare to lay a hand on him.Combining today's attitude from Garrison towards him, the only explanation is that Garrison was the one who hit him.

But why would he physically abuse his son when he's already so grown up?

And to beat him to the point where there's not a single spot on his body that's unharmed.

My mind is getting more and more confused, like there's a stick stirring my brain.

It's really giving me a headache.

"And I've noticed something else - in this castle, apart from us two, there don't seem to be any women."

Hearing Melody's words, I finally understood why I'd been feeling something was off since entering the castle.

All the servants in the castle are exclusively men. Besides Melody and me, there are no other women here.

Most people hiring servants would usually hire women, right? Why is this family so strange?

"If we'd known, we would have investigated thoroughly before marrying into this place. Damn it, we've walked right into a wolf's den."

"What are we going to do now? This castle might be grand and luxurious, but I'm scared!"

"I don't even dare to sleep in the same bed as Wylie. Sure, he's handsome, but I value my life! What if he suddenly croaks in his sleep?"

Listening to Melody's complaints, I couldn't help but burst into laughter. It seems she wasn't truly frightened, still having the presence of mind to worry about this.

"Knightley Estate is indeed a bit strange. For now, let's sleep in the same room. That way, if anything really happens, we can look out for each other."

"Let's stay alert. If we notice anything genuinely suspicious, we'll call the police right away."

"I just checked, and our phones still have signal."

With that said, we closed our eyes and prepared to sleep.

But just as I was about to drift off, I thought I heard someone talking downstairs.

The sound was faint, and I couldn't make it out clearly.

Half-asleep, I found myself unconsciously walking to the door.

Crouching on the stairs, I heard a woman's scream coming from below.

Where did a woman come from in this old mansion?

My drowsiness vanished instantly. Too scared to stay, I turned to go back to the room to wake Melody.

But as I turned around, I collided with someone's chest.

The impact brought tears to my eyes. In the dim moonlight filtering through the window, I recognized him - it was Wylie.

Wasn't he supposed to be on the tenth floor? How did he end up here?
