The First Big Payday (Page 2/2)

"Sure!" Jack nodded.

Having a direct line to big spenders meant less time wasted hawking his wares and more time raking in profits. Why wouldn't he agree?

Ding!

System Notification: Long Teng Wan Li wants to add you as a friend. Accept?

"Yes!"

At the same time, the man realized who he was dealing with. "So you're Yi Jack Shui?"

As the first player to slay a Bronze-Class Boss, Jack's name had gone viral faster than a cat video on Reddit. Denying knowledge of him would've been like claiming ignorance of Elon Musk.

Though Jack's level exceeded what his scouting skill could detect, the man had suspected he was talking to the infamous boss-slayer all along.

"I'll contact you if I get anything good. Don't worry—I won't lowball you," Jack chuckled, privately sending over his bank account info.

"Hahaha, wouldn't dream of it."

Long Teng Wan Li transferred the funds instantly, sealing the deal.

Later, after removing his headset, Jack tossed the sesame seed pancakes into a skillet to heat up, grabbed a glass of water, and dialed his mom.

"Hello?"

Her familiar voice crackled through the phone.

"Mom," Jack said. "I got the dried mustard greens you sent."

"Glad to hear it! I figured you'd like them, so I packed extra. How's work going? Your Uncle Chen mentioned how tough it is starting out. If you need cash, I can send a few thousand—"

Jack laughed. "Work's fine, actually. My boss loves me. Just gave me a bonus worth tens of thousands."

"Tens of thousands already?! In just a few months?" Her voice practically sparkled with pride.

"Yeah."

He reassured her, "Don't worry, Mom. I'm doing great. If things get tight at home, I can wire you twenty grand."

"We're fine, really. Just focus on yourself..."

They chatted for another ten minutes before hanging up. For lunch, Jack scarfed down the heated pancakes and logged back in. Time was precious in the early stages of the game, and he needed to keep expanding his lead.

After circling the starter village to confirm there were no quests left to claim, he spent fifty copper coins on a healing potion. According to the shopkeeper, the bottle contained twenty pills.

[Healing Potion]

Effect: Restores 50 HP per second for 10 seconds.

Cooldown: 20 seconds.

Description: A favorite among villagers, rumored to boost stamina and virility if taken three times daily, eight pills at a time.

Stepping onto the lush grass outside the village, Jack ventured deeper into tougher zones. With $20,000 freshly deposited in his bank account, he felt like he'd just won the lottery.

This was his first big payday in the game—and it was a five-figure haul!

Sure, he fancied himself a gaming veteran, but as a recent college grad, earning twenty grand in one go was enough to make anyone's heart race faster than a caffeinated squirrel.

Minutes later, he passed through the bison territory. Spotting a group of players teaming up to grind mobs, he hesitated for a moment before shaking his head. "Nah, bison are too easy now..."

With his current gear and level, farming bison would be like using a flamethrower to light candles—a complete waste of time. Their pitiful XP rewards weren't worth the effort anymore.

Beyond the bison lands lay a valley blanketed in greenery, birds chirping melodiously amidst fragrant flowers. But lurking within this picturesque scene were massive gray wolves, their presence turning paradise into predator central.

[Gray Wolf] (Normal Mob)

Level: 10

Health: 2000

Attack: 25-30

Defense: 18

Skill: [Bite]

Description: Masters of the valley, these wolves reign supreme in the starter zone. Countless adventurers have met their end under their fangs, becoming dinner for the pack.
