"Shayera," Vixen's voice cut through the air, shaking her awake. Shayera groaned as she opened her eyes. "Why don't we leave her and find Wonder Woman and Green Lantern?" Supergirl's voice piped up over Vixen's.
Shayera grimaced as she forced her eyes open. "We can't do that," Vixen scolded the younger hero. She turned back to the unconscious Thanagarian, then moved away when she saw Shayera stirring. "Good, you're awake."
The redhead sat up, rubbing her neck. "What happened?" she asked, wincing at the pain in her wings. She had landed on them awkwardly. With Vixen's assistance, she slowly stood up.
"The thieves got away and knocked us out," Supergirl explained. "I don't know where Wonder Woman and Green Lantern are. They said they'd be helping us." She watched as Shayera tested her wings.
Shayera nodded and scanned her surroundings. "Maybe they encountered something else. They didn't specify the number of thieves." She pointed out, frowning.
"Unless they were simply observing my teamwork with Vixen and Supergirl to gauge my compatibility." Shayera thought.
Supergirl raised an eyebrow at Shayera. "Ah, huh what?" Shayera inquired with narrowed green eyes. "Are you certain you weren't responsible for this?" Supergirl asked, crossing her arms.
"Why would I orchestrate this? I was blown away at the same time as you!" Shayera retorted, glaring back. "Do you believe I would've intentionally knocked myself out and remain with you two?" Shayera shook her head. She didn't need to defend herself to those who refused to listen.
Scanning the store, she observed that most of the hostages were unharmed and moving about. "Since the situation here appears to be under control, we should search for Diana and John," Vixen suggested.
"You're right, Vixen. Let's find them," Supergirl declared, leading the way out of the store. Vixen followed, while Shayera sighed and trailed behind, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Closing her eyes, Shayera focused, trying to sense the presence of the other two founding members of the League.
Shayera's mind raced with thoughts about the mission. Pushing them aside, she pressed her finger to her ear and attempted to contact J'onn, hoping he could help track Diana and John. Her frown deepened as she received only static in response.
"Anything?" Vixen inquired, noticing Shayera's pause. Supergirl rolled her eyes, wondering why her cousin had invited this woman back to the League.
Shayera met Vixen's gaze. "No, just static," she stated with a perplexed frown. "Are you sure it's not broken?" Supergirl questioned. "Yes, I'm certain," the redheaded Thanagarian replied firmly.
Vixen pressed her finger to her ear, hoping to contact J'onn. "J'onn, this is Vixen. Please respond," she said, a frown creasing her face as she heard only static. "Shayera's right. I'm getting static too."
Shayera pondered their options. "Let's return to the Javelin and try contacting them there," she suggested. "I doubt we're dealing with ordinary thieves."
The redhead turned to fly back. "Perhaps we should speak to the locals if we can't contact the Watchtower," Vixen proposed, running to keep pace with Shayera.
"Agreed," Shayera replied, flapping her wings to stabilize herself. She scanned the area, hoping to spot J'onn or Diana, but knew they would have intercepted them had they left the store.
Landing with wings tucked behind her, Shayera approached the Javelin. "Let's test its functionality," she uttered.
Supergirl followed her into the jet. "Supergirl, remain outside for security," Shayera instructed.
"Why? I could contact the Watchtower for assistance," Supergirl protested.
"Given Wonder Woman and Green Lantern's absence, I hold the authority, and my rank exceeds yours," Shayera stated firmly.
Supergirl's glare intensified. "Just because you were a founding member doesn't-"
Vixen swiftly intervened, covering Supergirl's mouth. "Kara, restrain your language," she said sternly. "We must collaborate with Shayera. Her authority takes precedence."
Supergirl relented with a grunt. "Fine," she muttered.
Shayera sighed, hoping they would soon find John and Diana. She wasn't sure she could handle this. "What are you thinking?" Vixen asked, following Shayera to the controls.
"Nothing," the Thanagarian whispered as she pressed buttons and then the call button. "Shayera to Watchtower," she said, leaning closer to hear clearly. "Can you hear me?" she asked, but all she got was static.
Vixen leaned in to listen but could only hear static and Shayera repeating her words. "I guess we have to do this on our own," Vixen said. The Thanagarian nodded. "I guess so," she replied.
"Let's talk to the townsfolk and see if they know anything," Shayera said as she headed out of the Javelin, Vixen trailing behind her. "I don't like this," Vixen said as she followed Shayera outside.
Shayera glanced over her shoulder. "I don't like it either," she agreed as they reached Supergirl. "So?" the blonde asked, turning to the older woman. "Nothing," Shayera replied as she started back towards town.
Vixen and Supergirl followed the winged woman. "Should we split up and inquire?" Vixen suggested. "It'll cover more ground."
Shayera halted near a light pole and gazed up at the darkening sky. "That sounds sensible, but take precautions," she advised. Vixen nodded. "We'll reunite at the Javelin with any findings," Shayera said.
"Understood," replied Vixen, proceeding to one side of the town while Supergirl took the other. Shayera watched them leave before continuing her own path.
As she searched her surroundings for potential informants, Shayera halted near an alleyway to contemplate. The gentle twitching of her wings betrayed her anxiety.
