This Prince Must Die (But He Must Not)

That night, she couldn't sleep well. Bai Xianyu rolled from side to side, but no matter how much she tried, she couldn't close her eyes.

Because if she let her guard down even for a second, the prince might die in his own stupidity.

"Maybe I'm just being too paranoid," Bai Xianyu thought, even though her gut feeling said otherwise.

Throughout the day, the prince had fallen from the roof, failed sword training, and nearly tripped over his own carpet five times. She recalled all those moments of ridiculous stupidity that made her smile in disbelief.

Then Bai Xianyu felt thirsty.

"I'll just go for a moment to get some tea."

She stood up and left the prince's room for less than three minutes.

But when she came back…

"PRINCE!!!" Bai Xianyu screamed

Zhao Renshu was almost drowning in the wine jar.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!" Bai Xianyu shouted, immediately pulling the prince body of the large urn.

Zhao Renshu coughed heavily, wine dripping from his hair.

"Ugh… I just wonder if this wine smells better than normal wine…"

Bai Xianyu looked at him in disbelief.

"...and you PUT YOUR HEAD IN IT?"

"Yes." Prince Zhao Renshu answered without hesitation

Bai Xianyu really wanted to smash her own head against the wall hoping that her mission would end.

Zhao Renshu fluffed his hair, causing a few drops of wine to splatter onto Bai Xianyu's face, and she smiled brightly.

"But at least now I know the answer! This wine does smell better!"

Bai Xianyu pressed her temples, her head throbbing at the sheer nonsense.

"Prince, I'm serious. You really need to be more careful. If you keep acting like this..."

A sharp sound shot through the air.

Black arrows suddenly shot towards them!

Bai Xianyu's reacted instantly grabbing Zhao Renshu, and rolling them both onto the floor just before an arrow struck the chair where the prince had been sitting earlier.

The prince's eyes widened. "Eh? I almost died, didn't I?"

Bai Xianyu clutched her shoulders. "YES, AND YOU SHOULD BE MORE PANIC!"

Zhao Renshu actually smiled. "Wow, lucky to have you here!"

Bai Xianyu took a deep breath.

Not only did she have to protect the prince from the enemies who were targeting him…

But also from his own stupidity.

She immediately drew her sword, her eyes sweeping across the room, searching for the source of the attack.

However, before she could react any further...

"Prince, WATCH OUT!"

There were two black shadows shooting out of the window.

Bai Xianyu shifted quickly, parrying the first sword attack from one of the intruders. Metallic clashes filled the room, making Zhao Renshu immediately hide behind her.

"Who are they?" Zhao Renshu asked in a panicked voice.

"I don't know! But they are definitely not delivering birthday gifts!" Bai Xianyu snapped.

The fight was intense. She counterattacked, kicking one of the intruders backward. The man crashed onto the table but quickly got up with practiced agility.

Bai Xianyu narrowed her eyes. Their movements were too skilled. This wasn't a random attack. They weren't just ordinary soldiers.

They wanted Zhao Renshu dead.

"Prince, stay behind me!" Bai Xianyu exclaimed.

Zhao Renshu nodded quickly. "I'm always behind you!"

One of the intruders darted forward, attacking Bai Xianyu with swift movements. Bai Xianyu dodged and countered with a sword slash.

*Sreeett!!!

Her blade cut across the attacker's shoulder, making him stagger back with a growl.

But before Bai Xianyu could breathe, she realized something was wrong.

The second intruder had tied the prince with a rope and was preparing to escape through the window.

"You're kidding, right?!" Bai Xianyu almost cried in frustration.

She could not let this happen.

Without hesitation, Bai Xianyu pulled a small dagger from her belt.

With swift precision, she hurled it straight at the rope binding Zhao Renshu.

Zhao Renshu immediately fell to the floor in a miserable heap.

However, Bai Xianyu didn't have time to scold him.

She launched forward, engaging the remaining intruders in a fierce battle. After several minutes of relentless fighting…

"Damn it!" one of the intruders growled. "We fall back now!" Quickly, they jumped out the window, disappearing into the darkness.

Bai Xianyu did not pursue. They survived tonight, that's all that matters.

She turned to Zhao Renshu who was still sitting on the floor with a confused expression.

"Did I almost die again?" he asked innocently.

"YES, YOU ALMOST DIED AGAIN!" Bai Xianyu snapped at him.

Zhao Renshu was silent for a moment… then smiled. "Wow… this is interesting! I've never been chased by a killer before!"

Bai Xianyu wanted to cry and hit her forehead against the wall. At that moment she leaned against the wall, trying to calm her mind.

"Prince, from now on you can't go anywhere without me. Do you understand?" Bai Xianyu ordered

"Hah? But I still want to see the birds tomorrow" answered Zhao Renshu

"I'M SERIOUS!" Bai Xianyu emphasized in an annoyed tone

"Okay, fine"

Zhao Renshu finally nodded, although his face looked disappointed.

Bai Xianyu sighed. It's only the second day, and there's already been an assassination attempt.

Bai Xianyu squinted.. "Whoever someone wants the prince dead, they will definitely come back. And next time, they probably won't fail."

Her eyes looked at Zhao Renshu who was still wet from wine, sitting casually as if nothing had happened.

Bai Xianyu groaned inwardly.

"If I can keep this creature alive for a month, I deserve the title of the greatest general in the entire nation."

And with that, Bai Xianyu officially faced the toughest challenge of her life.

Not war, not political strategy, but keeping this stupid prince alive.

A small voice came from the window.

Bai Xianyu immediately became alert, her sword still drawn. Her eyes scanned the room, making sure there were no other threats.

Zhao Renshu yawned. "I'm tired. Can I sleep now?"

And that's when she saw it.

On the wall outside the room, something had been engraved in blood.

"The prince will not see the next dawn."

Bai Xianyu turned towards Zhao Renshu, who was still sitting casually, oblivious to the huge threat hanging over his head.

She gritted her teeth.

Their enemies weren't messing around.
