Colorless world (IV)

"What the hell are you doing? Help! Where are the enforcers? Quickly! That kid is holding a demonic artifact in a civilian zone!" The granny screamed, catching the attention of all the people nearby.

Sorry, my friend, you have to go now.

I quickly made the handgun disappear, but the mistake was already done. I stuck out like a sore thumb being so brightly colored in such a sad-looking road. Even the girl had gained her colors back.

"No, miss, we can explain!" She tried to plead with the screaming hag, but she simply wouldn't listen to us; she was screaming, waving her hands to make herself as noticeable as possible.

"Where are the guards! Please help! These violent monsters are trying to disturb the peace of the civilian area, showing off their demonic relics! Enforcers! Please help!" The old lady kept screaming her lungs out, desperate for attention.

"What's her problem?" I asked the tall girl, who was still holding my hand.

"You can't say that to someone much older than you! Where are your manners?" She quickly scolded in that chaos and even stopped me from pointing at the annoying hag.

Why am I the one getting scolded? The one screaming like a crazy one is that annoying hag! I am the polite one in the situation! I should be praised instead for not flipping her off! I already learned the forbidden R-word! I'm not afraid to use it if necessary!

I shrugged my shoulders and turned to the others to see their reaction. Helena didn't seem to care much about the old lady; she was simply tugging the girl acting as our supervisor to hurry up since she wanted to go to the park to play with the others.

The boy and the shy girl seemed a bit worried but seemed confident the tall girl would surely fix the situation.

"Help! They're coming to kill me! They want to silence me!! Enforcers! Help!" The hag got even louder when the tall girl walked towards to calm her down.

For fuck's sake! Get a life! Who cares! We're not disturbing anyone! We were just playing with colors! Is it too hard to understand? How can you be so…

Now I could properly feel all the gazes of the neighborhood directed at us; the passersby had stopped to glance at us, the people enjoying themselves at the bars had stopped talking to look at the granny, and even the people relaxing in their own homes came out to check out the old lady.

And as luck would have it, a couple of police-looking individuals eventually came to her rescue.

They were wearing mostly dark outfits, with metal cuffs on their sides along with a small handgun. They also were wearing a badge on the right side of their chest displaying their first and last name.

"What's wrong with her? Why is she screaming so much just because I had demonic artifacts on? Aren't those weapons kind of the norm around these parts? I mean, they were discovered in the fracture; why is she freaking out so much?" I asked Elena.

"What are you talking about? They're not that common. Apart from you, my father, or Lucia, I never saw another user of those cursed items." She responded.

"Lucia?" I was confused by the sudden name drop.

"Yeah, Lucia." Elena repeated, unaware of the confusion in my mind, and when I repeated the name, she simply kept repeating this response; only after the fourth time did I finally ask for a clarification.

"Who's Lucia?" I've asked confused; the screaming noise in the background was making it hard to hear Elena well.

"The old one." She said pointing at the tall girl.

Lucia once revealed her colors: she had brown hair, had white skin, and had a light pink shirt. She even had what seemed to be a bear tag hanging on the side of her extremely short jeans.

"What's going on here? Are these people harassing you?" The cops quickly sided with the old lady and pushed Lucia aside.

Don't tell me they're going to believe her now… fuck! I shouldn't—NO! Why is it my fault now? It's her! She's the one who ruined it for the rest of us! She should apologize!

They took her away from us to get her side of the story, and judging by the expression she made and the way she was gesturing, it didn't seem like she was telling the truth.

"Can we go already? I'm super tired, and I don't want to stay here all morning." The girl with weird eyes asked Elena.

"I don't know; I think we should wait for Lucia; otherwise…"

The other cop was getting the story told from Lucia, then they both turned towards me, and she pointed her finger at me specifically. They then approached us.

The cop was massive; he looked big from the other side of the road, but when he came closer, I saw the staggering difference. He barely looked human; he was probably a head taller than my uncle, who was the tallest man I had ever met.

He was a tall, bald mountain of a man, with incredibly large arms; even his hands seemed bigger than my face.

I resisted the urge to pee myself when he got closer; I still took a couple of steps back, and then he got down on one knee, and even then, he was still taller than me.

"Hey, don't be afraid, kid. Can you tell me your name?" He asked me if his tone of voice was extremely relaxed; he had a warm smile stamped on his face, which helped combat the fear of him.

"I-I-I'm Luca." I answered.

Lucia looked at me with a weird look on her face.

"What about your last name?" He asked me; he tried putting up a smile, but his large face became only ten times more horrifying to look at.

"Jitter Meist." I reluctantly replied, as I felt cornered against a wall by that massive enforcer.

The moment those words came out of my mouth, I saw the eyes of the police officer widen. He seemed to have suddenly lost balance on his one last remaining leg, but he quickly recollected himself.

He reached out to me with his hand, and I immediately tried to run away. Lucia stopped me; she grabbed me, lifted my body, and brought me back to the anxious cop. His hand was trembling; his eyes were so focused he appeared ten times bigger than he already was.

Please don't hurt me! I've done nothing wrong!

After removing the beanie I was wearing, he remained silent; he and the girl exchanged a worried look and then put the beanie back on top of my head.

What? You're not going to hurt me? Oh, my hair! Now that you know who my mother is, get the fuck out of my sight; you disgust me!

I wanted to act tough but my legs simply couldn't stop shaking, I still wanted to run away and the more I struggled to free myself, the more panicked I felt.

"Have a good day." The cop quickly retracted his hand and distanced himself from us.

Only when he had spoken to his colleague and both got away after convincing the old hag to stop yelling did finally Lucia put me down.

Her arms were covered in injuries I caused while struggling to free myself.

"I-I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean it." I immediately began to apologize as soon as I saw her bloodied arms.

"Don't worry." She reassured me while patting my head in her usual affectionate tone. "I barely felt a thing, now… How about we all take an ice cream?"

The other kids rolled their eyes; the dark-haired, shy kid cowered behind Lucia the moment we crossed paths, and Helena rushed towards me the moment I was put back on the ground.

"Are you okay? What did that enforcer do to you? Do you feel strange?" She came for a hug and almost made me fall on my back. Then she began meticulously inspecting me, both my hair, eyes, and neck.

I was still shocked by the recent encounter. I didn't know what to say or what to feel, so I simply sat still, waiting for my heart to calm down, allowing them to drag my body left and right until we reached the damned park they so wanted to enjoy.
