chapter 5

Chapter 5: Rising AmbitionsSmallville High – The Shift BeginsBy the time Lazarus and Clark entered their junior year, the differences in their priorities had become more apparent.

Clark was still the dependable farm boy, helping his parents and keeping his abilities a secret. Lazarus, on the other hand, had already made a name for himself. The young entrepreneur was securing deals with investors, making trips to Metropolis, and gaining recognition in business circles.

"Dude, I saw your name in The Daily Planet," Pete said as they walked to class. "You're, like, the youngest business prodigy since Lex Luthor."

Lazarus smirked. "Luthor's old news. I'm just getting started."

Chloe, walking beside them, raised an eyebrow. "You sound like you're already planning world domination."

Lazarus chuckled. "Not domination—innovation."

Clark, listening quietly, finally spoke. "Just don't lose sight of what's important."

Lazarus looked at his brother. "And what's that?"

Clark smiled. "Family. Friends. The people who care about you, not just your success."

Lazarus held his gaze before nodding. "Don't worry, Clark. I know where I came from."

But deep down, he also knew he was meant for more than a small-town life.

The Luthor ConnectionLater that day, Lazarus found himself at the Luthor Mansion, sitting across from Lex Luthor.

"You're making waves," Lex said, pouring himself a drink. "Investors are starting to take notice."

Lazarus leaned back. "Good. I want them to."

Lex studied him. "You remind me of myself when I was younger."

"I'll take that as a compliment… for now."

Lex smirked. "You're smart, ambitious—but if you really want to succeed, you'll need allies. People who can help you navigate the world of power."

Lazarus narrowed his eyes. "And you want to be one of those people?"

Lex took a sip of his drink. "I don't offer partnerships lightly, Lazarus. But you're different. You're not just some small-town dreamer. You see the bigger picture."

Lazarus considered this. Lex was dangerous, but also valuable. He knew how to play the game of power.

"I'm open to discussions," Lazarus finally said. "But don't mistake me for one of your lackeys, Lex. I don't follow—I lead."

Lex chuckled. "Good. This might be the start of something very interesting."

Kent Farm – Family MattersThat night, Lazarus returned home, only to be met by Jonathan Kent's stern gaze.

"You're spending a lot of time with Lex Luthor," Jonathan said as they stood in the barn.

Lazarus crossed his arms. "He's got influence. Connections. Things I can learn from."

Jonathan shook his head. "Son, men like Lex don't help people without expecting something in return."

"I know that," Lazarus replied. "But I also know how to play the game."

Jonathan sighed. "I just don't want you to lose yourself in all of this."

Lazarus softened. "I won't, Dad. I promise."

Jonathan studied his son before nodding. "Just remember—you'll always have a home here, no matter how far you go."

Lazarus smiled. "I know."

But as he looked out at the horizon, he couldn't shake the feeling that Smallville was just the beginning.

And the world was waiting.
