Chapter 20: The Battle at the Breach
The deep ocean was eerily silent—until it wasn't.
From the depths of the abyss, three Category 4 Kaiju emerged.
Their monstrous forms glowed with bioluminescence, their eyes burning with an unnatural hunger. Their massive bodies distorted the ocean's currents, sending waves crashing into the towering Jaegers.
Inside his cockpit, Herc Hansen felt the weight of the moment.
This was the first time humanity would face a three-Kaiju threat at once.
And in the worst possible place—the ocean floor.
Everything about this mission was against them.
The pressure, the lack of visibility, the difficulty of movement… if they weren't careful, this could be their last stand.
Herc's voice cut through the radio.
Herc Hansen: "Tendo, give me a reading. What are we dealing with?"
A pause.
Then, Tendo's voice came through the comms from the Shatterdome.
Tendo Choi: "Three Category 4 Kaiju, sir. And they're fast."
A heavy silence filled the comms.
Category 4 Kaiju were already a nightmare.
Three at once?
This wasn't a battle—this was a suicide mission.
Herc exhaled. He had been in the Jaeger program since the beginning. He was the oldest, the most experienced.
And now, everyone was looking to him for leadership.
He couldn't let them see doubt.
Couldn't let them see fear.
So he did what leaders did.
He gave the order.
Herc Hansen: "Battle formation! Protect the package! The bomb is our priority!"
No one hesitated.
Immediately, the four Jaegers shifted into position.
Striker Eureka took the center, its plasma cannons humming with deadly power.Gipsy Danger moved to the right flank, its massive reactor glowing faintly in the abyss.Crimson Typhoon, with its three powerful arms, shifted to the left, its pilots ready to engage.Rajah, Shane's Jaeger, stood slightly apart, scanning for enemy movement.
They were ready.
Then, Shane's voice cut through the tension.
Shane : "I hope they give us a five-star review for our service."
For a moment, the tension broke as the pilots chuckled.
Even in the face of death, they could still joke.
They were human, after all.
But the laughter didn't last long.
Because then—the Kaiju disappeared.
The ocean around them was suddenly too quiet.
The Kaiju had been right in front of them.
And now?
Gone.
Tendo's voice crackled through the comms.
Tendo Choi: "They're spreading out! Moving fast on your sides!"
The Jaeger pilots tensed, scanning the dark waters.
But Shane already knew.
His sensors flared, picking up something shifting through the water on his side.
And then—he understood.
Shane: "They're flanking us. I'll handle this one. Focus on the other two!"
Herc hesitated, but there was no time for debate.
He gave a sharp nod.
Herc Hansen: "Understood. Take care, Shane."
And then, Shane activated close combat mode.
A massive blade extended from Rajah's arm, gleaming even in the darkness of the ocean floor.
He positioned his Jaeger, sensors locked onto the incoming Kaiju.
It was fast.
Too fast.
Then—it struck.
A massive shape lunged from the abyss, its monstrous jaws snapping at Rajah's head.
Shane was ready.
He swung first.
The blade cut deep, severing the Kaiju's arm, dark blood spilling into the water.
But the Kaiju didn't stop.
With a deafening roar, it whipped its tail around, striking Rajah with the force of a freight train.
The impact sent a shockwave through the cockpit.
Shane gritted his teeth, gripping the controls as the Jaeger skidded backward.
But he had expected this.
Instead of stumbling, Rajah dug its feet into the ocean floor, absorbing the force head-on.
Shane smirked.
Shane (grinning): "Nice try."
And then, he lunged forward.....
The Other Battle
While Shane faced off against his Kaiju, the other two were already charging.
Tendo's voice came through the comms.
Tendo Choi: "One in front! Another on your side, Crimson Typhoon!"
The formation shifted.
Striker Eureka held the center, ready to provide support. Gipsy Danger moved right, preparing to intercept.Crimson Typhoon turned left, its three arms spinning as it prepared for impact.
And then—the Kaiju struck.
One rushed Crimson Typhoon, jaws snapping.
The Wei Tang Brothers reacted instantly.
Instead of dodging, they charged forward.
A metal fist collided with the Kaiju's face—sending it reeling backward.
Another arm grabbed its throat, stopping it mid-charge.
The third arm punched its ribcage, sending cracks through its armor.
But the Kaiju fought back.
With a deafening roar, it lashed out, its claws tearing across Crimson Typhoon's shoulder plating.
Sparks erupted.
Warning lights flashed.
But the pilots didn't stop.
They gritted their teeth and kept fighting.
Meanwhile, Gipsy Danger and Striker Eureka turned their attention to the second Kaiju.
It was bigger. Meaner.
And it wasn't slowing down.
Herc Hansen:
"Get ready!"
The Kaiju roared.
The Jaegers braced.
And the real battle began.
Chapter end.
