Chapter 1

In a car accident, I injured my head while protecting Gideon.

Fearing I'd forget him and our memories together, I kept refusing surgery.

But on nights when I lay awake in pain,

He was carving statues to celebrate the awakening of his first love from a vegetative state.

He even used his precious hands to cook meals for his first love.

When I confronted him, he showed no remorse.

"We're legally married, what are you worried about?"

But he seemed to have forgotten that we never actually got our marriage certificate.

"My memory has been getting worse lately."

The doctor sitting across from me carefully examined the scans in his hand.

"The blood clot in your brain is already compressing your nerves."

"If we don't operate soon, you might not make it!"

Seeing my silence, the doctor sighed deeply, giving up on trying to persuade me.

Just as he was handing me the prescription, I suddenly spoke as if I had made up my mind.

"I agree to have the surgery."

The doctor was taken aback, and seemingly afraid I might change my mind, he quickly wrote up the paperwork.

The surgery date was set for a week later.

As I was leaving the hospital after paying the fees, I happened to run into Gideon accompanying Vivienne to her rehab session.

He gently supported Vivienne, patiently guiding her as she walked forward.

He would occasionally offer words of encouragement to Vivienne.

He would also pull out a handkerchief from his pocket to carefully wipe the beads of sweat from her forehead.

"Mrs. Winters, you're so lucky to have such a wonderful husband!"

The nurse's eyes were filled with envy as she looked at them.

Vivienne smiled without speaking, but when she caught a glimpse of me, her expression suddenly changed.

"That's not true, Gideon and I are just friends.""Gideon, go explain to Miss Frost right away!"

Vivienne seemed very anxious, pushing Gideon repeatedly with her hands.

But the moment he let go, her legs gave out and she collapsed to the ground.

"Vivienne!"

Gideon's eyes filled with worry as he quickly scooped her up in his arms.

"Look at you, how can you be so careless? What if you'd hurt yourself?"

Vivienne's eyes brimmed with vulnerability as she cautiously glanced in my direction.

"I just didn't want Miss Frost to be angry."

Gideon followed her gaze, his icy stare tinged with a hint of resentment.

He was blaming me for showing up here.

My head started throbbing again.

The intense pain nearly knocked me off balance. I barely managed to steady myself before hurrying out of the hospital.

I stumbled back home.

I intended to rest for a while, but then I saw the kitchen in complete disarray.

Pots and pans were piled everywhere, with the stove and sink covered in grease.

A wave of anger surged through me, making it hard to breathe.

My phone rang abruptly.

I opened it to find someone had shared a photo in the work group chat.In the photo, there's a bowl of chicken soup and a heart-shaped cupcake.

[I'm telling you, if you're in a relationship, you should look up to Elise and Gideon.]

[Using an artist's most precious hands to make a loving lunch for their sweetheart, how romantic!]

But before anyone in the group chat could reply, these messages were retracted.

I shook my head mockingly.

Looks like Gideon saw it. He's always good at putting on a front for others.

My headache was making me dizzy.

I carelessly tossed my phone into my bag and collapsed onto the bed.

Just as I was starting to drift off, the door was suddenly flung open.

"Elise, the kitchen's a complete mess. Couldn't you tidy up a bit?"

My head felt like it was exploding.

I struggled to prop myself up and spoke weakly.

"Gideon, I have a headache."

Gideon seemed not to hear, still muttering about how Elise was getting more and more spoiled.

"Gideon!"

Fighting through the pain in my heart, I raised my voice.

"I said, I have a headache!"

Gideon froze for a moment, a flicker of guilt passing through his eyes.

He hurriedly went to find the medicine box, searching for my headache pills.

But as he held the pills, before he could walk towards me, the phone rang abruptly.Looking up from the phone screen with its note, he glanced at me once before walking towards the balcony.

But he seemed to have forgotten something.

The living room balcony connected to the bedroom.

I could hear his phone conversation crystal clear.
