Chapter 4

Gideon carefully observed my expression before tentatively speaking.

"I thought, as compensation..."

"In a couple of days, for my sculpture exhibition, would it be possible for Vivienne to accompany me?"

I instantly understood why Gideon had shown up here.

A sharp pain, like a needle prick, stabbed at my heart.

I abruptly pulled my hand away and coldly replied, "Fine."

Gideon didn't notice my displeasure.

He casually told me to take good care of myself.

Then he hastily left the hospital room.

I watched his retreating figure, a bitter smile playing on my lips.

As I smiled, a tear rolled down from the corner of my eye.

......

Three days later, it was time for Gideon's sculpture exhibition.

I arrived at the venue early, meticulously checking all the facilities in the hall.

Ensuring that once the exhibition began, there wouldn't be any issues.

When it was time to open, I personally stood at the entrance, welcoming each guest.

Explaining to them the design concepts behind the sculptures.

Amidst the comings and goings, I saw Gideon pushing Vivienne's wheelchair.

His handsome features were filled with tender love.Patiently, he explained to Vivienne how he had created these sculptures.

My heart felt a twinge of bitterness.

I could only turn and walk into the bathroom, splashing several handfuls of cold water on my face.

After composing myself, I wiped my face and walked out of the bathroom, only to see a suspicious figure lurking about.

"Isn't that Nash? He's our competitor, what's he doing here?"

I rubbed my chin, looking in the direction he had come from.

"Oh no!"

I sprinted towards the massive sculpture in the center of the hall.

"Everyone, get out! It's not safe here!"

I shouted while leading people towards a safer area.

But Vivienne wouldn't budge.

She stubbornly remained in place, her eyes fixed on me with a haunting gaze.

"Elise, you're not just trying to keep people from seeing this sculpture, are you?"

"Saying all this to lead everyone away!"

I gave her a look as if she were an idiot and rolled my eyes.

I forcefully reached out to push her wheelchair.

"I'm not going! I'm not going! Let go of me!"

Vivienne kept slapping at my hands, gripping her wheelchair tightly.

Just then, a thunderous sound erupted overhead.

The giant sculpture suddenly collapsed, and chunks of stone hurtled towards the two of them.Elise and Vivienne were trapped under the same boulder.

The rescue team tried for hours but couldn't find a way to save both of us at the same time.

By this point, Gideon's eyes were bloodshot.

Faced with the choice presented by the rescue team, he clenched his fists and remained silent.

After a long while, he approached with stiff steps and knelt in front of me.

"Elise, I've already failed Vivienne once."

"I really have no choice. Please don't blame me."

"Don't worry, if anything happens to you, I'll take care of you for the rest of my life!"

The determination in Gideon's words didn't move me one bit.

A chill ran from the soles of my feet, as if I'd fallen into an icy pit.

The pain of being crushed by the rock was nothing compared to the ache in my heart.

Hearing Gideon choose Vivienne, I closed my eyes in despair.

Intense pain immediately washed over me.

I felt as if half of my internal organs had been crushed.

Thankfully, heaven showed mercy, and I miraculously survived.

As we neared the operating room, I reached out and grabbed the doctor's arm.

"I want to have the brain surgery I previously scheduled done at the same time!"
