Chapter 4

The man couldn't believe I could say such things. He gritted his teeth and said, "Evelina, do you know what you're saying?"

Suddenly, a surprised female voice came from behind: "Granger, what are you two doing?"

Hearing Melody's voice, Granger jumped away from me like a spring, even putting a yard of distance between us.

Afraid of being associated with me and letting Melody misunderstand, I rolled my eyes coldly.

He spoke softly to Melody: "It's nothing. Evelina's just being clingy again. Good thing you're here. Didn't you say earlier you wanted to try on wedding dresses? I'll take you to try them on tomorrow."

As he spoke, he deliberately glanced at my face, trying to find a hint of expression, but unfortunately, there was none.

As if to get back at me, he uploaded photos to his social media when he accompanied Melody to try on wedding dresses. Granger also appeared in Melody's shared posts.

As I passed by the nurses' station, I overheard them discussing.

"Did you see? Dr. Langdon from surgery went with Kimberly to try on wedding dresses. Are they really getting married?"

"Isn't that just a matter of time? The entire hospital knows about their relationship. After two years of silence, it seems they think the time is right now.

Whether they get married or not doesn't matter to me. It's none of my business anyway.

My husband told me that Sweetheart and Blossom would be coming to visit Grandpa in the afternoon, so I waited for them in the hospital room.

When Sweetheart and Blossom arrived, the whole room was filled with cheerful laughter.

Seeing their two little grandchildren, Mom and Dad's worried brows relaxed considerably.

In the afternoon, while I was changing Blossom's diaper, a charming voice came from the doorway.

"Wow, whose baby is this? So cute and chubby!"

Hearing Melody's voice, I turned around impatiently, my gaze falling on Granger's gloomy face.

Ignoring him, I walked over and took the baby back from Melody's arms, smiling as I said to her:

"This is my child. You're wearing a white coat, so it's not convenient for you to hold the baby."

I looked at Melody with a smile, surprised that she could return to work after just a few short hours.

Seems like she's got some pretty strong backing.

In a corner where no one was paying attention.Granger stumbled, nearly falling over when he heard me say the children were mine.

Panic began to rise within him, his face betraying a distress he hadn't even noticed himself.

Still in disbelief, he said, "Where did you adopt these twins from? I always knew you liked taking care of kids, but I never thought you'd adopt two at once."

As soon as he spoke, those around me and I turned to look at him with strange expressions.

Eventually, my mom answered for me, her tone tinged with gentle anger: "How can you talk about my grandchildren like that? These two babies were carried by my daughter for nine months. She nearly died bringing them into this world through C-section. Who immediately jumps to the conclusion that children aren't one's own?"

My fellow patients adored my two children. We had just been discussing the process of my C-section.

When the topic of scars came up, I was telling them about scar removal creams. Since she'd also had a C-section, when this patient heard what Granger said, she got a bit angry and spoke up for me: "Every time you two come here, it's nothing but trouble. You don't even look like you're responsible for our ward. Why do you keep coming to bully this young woman? Is there nothing better for you to do at work?"Melody, feeling defensive, slipped back into her coy act: "Granger, I just wanted to come over and apologize. You see how they're..."

What no one expected was Granger suddenly shouting at me: "Evelina, when did I ever give you permission to have twins? Why did you just go ahead and give birth to my children without letting me know?"
