"Please eat." Mei said in a calm voice as she nudged me but I did not respond to her. I could not move, could not speak, I just sat stiffly.

I could still hear it. The screams, the cries, the cheering and laughter. Everything was so vivid in my head.

"Come on." Mel raised a spoonful of food to my mouth. "Eat. It is over now."

It was not over? They did this every week and if the king held true to his words, I would be next.

"You dare say that when I would be the one in that situation next time?" I asked and she averted her gaze.

"The tunnels are there for a reason. If the king does not enter the tunnel you do, you might be free." Mel said.
