Chapter 8: The Emperor’s Dilemma

Inside the Imperial Palace

The air inside the grand throne room was tense. Nobles and military officials stood in silence, their faces pale. The Emperor himself, Emperor Alden von Aurelius, sat on his golden throne, deep in thought.

He had just received the full report about what had happened at Luminous Manor.

A single snap of the fingers. That was all it took for Gale von Eberhart, the Empire's youngest prodigy, to be utterly destroyed.

The worst part?

Frank Luminous hadn't even taken the duel seriously.

The Emperor exhaled slowly, his fingers tapping against the armrest of his throne.

"…So, even one of our finest talents was nothing before him," Alden muttered.

An elderly noble stepped forward hesitantly. "Your Majesty, forgive me for saying this, but… is it truly wise to ignore the Luminous family? At this rate, Duke Reynard's loss will seem insignificant."

A general, clad in shining silver armor, gritted his teeth. "Your Majesty, with all due respect, Frank Luminous is too dangerous. If he ever decides to—"

"He won't," Alden interrupted.

The nobles fell silent.

Alden slowly leaned forward. "You all misunderstand something fundamental about Frank Luminous. He has no interest in politics, war, or power."

"But… but Your Majesty," another noble stammered, "surely someone with such overwhelming strength—"

"Would rule the world?" Alden finished the sentence for him. "Yes, if he wanted to. But he doesn't. And that is why we must leave him alone."

The throne room was quiet once more.

Then, a voice broke the silence.

"What if he changes his mind?"

All eyes turned to the one who spoke—Crown Prince Damian von Aurelius.

The young prince stood near the Emperor's side, his silver hair gleaming under the light of the grand chandelier. His sharp blue eyes were filled with cautious calculation.

"The world is unpredictable," Damian continued. "No matter how much we believe Frank Luminous to be disinterested, the possibility remains. And if that day ever comes, will we truly have the power to stop him?"

Alden sighed. "No. We won't."

His straightforward answer sent a chill through the room.

The nobles and generals exchanged nervous glances.

Damian narrowed his eyes. "Then, should we not at least prepare a contingency plan?"

Alden shook his head. "A contingency plan against what? Against someone who defeated a Duke and a prodigy without even trying?"

Damian remained silent.

The Emperor glanced around the room. "We are not dealing with a normal powerhouse. Frank Luminous is beyond human comprehension. Even the gods remain silent. If they, with all their divine authority, choose not to interfere, why should we?"

The nobles lowered their heads.

Finally, Alden leaned back in his throne and sighed. "From this day forward, let it be known—the Luminous family is not to be touched. Any hostility against them is an act of suicide."

The decision had been made.

No one dared to challenge it.

Back at Luminous Manor

Frank was, once again, lying on his couch. A book rested on his chest, and a warm cup of tea sat untouched on the table beside him.

Elise watched him with an unreadable expression.

"…Young Master."

Frank's golden eyes lazily opened. "Hm?"

"You do realize that the Emperor just declared your family untouchable, right?"

Frank blinked. "Oh. Did he?"

Elise's eye twitched. "You don't care at all, do you?"

Frank yawned. "Not really."

Elise sighed in frustration. "Don't you realize that the entire Empire is now terrified of you?"

Frank reached for his tea and took a slow sip. "That just means fewer people will bother me. Sounds great."

Elise rubbed her temples. "At this rate, no one in the world will ever dare to fight you."

Frank set his cup down and smirked slightly.

"Good."

And with that, he closed his eyes once more, returning to his peaceful nap, while the world trembled in fear of his existence.
