"I'm heading to the British military base," he announced. "We've been getting a little too cozy with the Americans.

 People will start talking if I don't smooth things over with the British."

"Smooth things over?" she repeated, incredulous. "You talk about the British Empire like they're a temperamental child."

Her look of disdain was palpable, but he ignored it.

"You shouldn't look at your superior like that, you know. One of these days, you'll get fired!"

"Oh no, I'd be your first resignation? How tragic," she replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

For a moment, he paused. If he did fire her, wouldn't that be a loss for him? There wasn't anyone else quite like Siurin.

 He sighed inwardly.

"This time, I'll let it slide. But next time, no mercy!"

"Great! Does that mean if I mess up once more, you'll actually fire me?"
