Chapter 9

At the Coffee Shop

The aroma coming from the counter immediately tickled their nose. The strong flavor of the coffee welcomed them. The noisy atmosphere gave them the reality of the busy people walking in and out from the shop. The line in the counter is not that long, giving them a chance to step in quickly.

This is the nearest coffee shop from the university and this place also serves as their relaxing spot if they want to release some stress from studying. Now that Hazel is going to leave this university, she started to reminisce about the first time going here.

She thought at first that this shop is expensive because it looks classy. Adeline was the one who asked her to come and sit with her inside this coffee shop. Her friend has also treated her a couple of times already.

They both have the same taste they like when it comes to coffee. This is why they became this close, treating and caring for each other like sisters. For Hazel, she is lucky enough to have Adeline as her trusted friend.

The two of them were busy chit chatting when the man in black approached them.

"Miss Hazel, I can ask them to make a way for you." He whispered.

Hazel completely forgot that Axel's men are still following them. However, three of them are outside while the two stayed with them inside. She almost forgot that if she wanted to, she would have the authority to be the first in line by just saying that she knows the Alpha.

"It's okay," Hazel whispered back.

She did not like to cause a scene here. Just by having these two tall men in black was enough to get other people's attention.

"But Boss told us to–"

Hazel shushed him. "It's fine. I can wait." She insisted, looking around to make sure that no one was looking at them.

The two men then talked to each other softly and then nodded in agreement. They stepped forward but made sure that Hazel was still within their sight.

After ordering, they sat down on the spot those two men chose for them. The lady was about to spill the tea but then she remembered those two.

"Can you guys please move to another table? I want privacy," Hazel said.

The two men in black looked at each other and then stood up. Instead of moving to another empty table, they headed to the side of the door and waited there. One of them showed a thumbs up to the two ladies.

"Finally.." A long sigh was released from Hazel's mouth.

"I can't stand walking with them or them following me," She added, rumbling continuously. "I feel so intimidated every time. Finally, my own space."

Adeline giggled at her. "You shouldn't hire them if you don't want them to be with you. They are your bodyguards, right? They are there to protect you in times of danger." She said,

Hazel widened her eyes at her friend. "You are getting it wrong, Adeline."

"Then, please enlighten me, Hazel." She said as they both laughed.

After minutes of explaining.

Adeline was left in a daze for a couple of seconds. Everything she heard is still sinking and processing inside her brain.

"Wait," she said. "So, you are saying that this random kid just grabbed you out of nowhere and it changed your life? In an instant?!" She exclaimed.

Hazel immediately covered her friend's mouth. "You are being too loud," she whispered.

Adeline leaned closer to her and said. "I still couldn't believe it,"

"I know, but it happened already. Me either." Hazel shrugged her shoulders.

Who would have thought that she would someday bump into one of the most powerful Alpha in the city. Knowing that she is just a plain omega, never in her life she expected it. Fate is indeed playful sometimes.

"Where's the kid now?" Adeline asked.

"He was left at the mansion. I couldn't look after him today because I need to do a lot of stuff. He has his home lessons today. Don't worry, he is a nice kid." Hazel said with a smile.

Adeline grabbed her arms. "Are you sure? If they do something bad to you, don't hesitate to call me. You know my number." She said,

"I will," Hazel replied. "Don't be too loud. You are overreacting now."

Adeline shrugged. "Well, it's still a shock for me. Of all the people. That Alpha? An Alpha? You know Alphas are dangerous, Hazel. They can devour you if they want. They are dominant. He can get what he wants from you if he wants to. Just a flick of his finger." She warned the lady.

Though Hazel felt chills, she did not let the other lady notice it. The moment she stepped into that house and the time when she signed the contract, she already knew the heavy risk she would take. She came prepared. All of this is because she wanted a better life.

No one, even herself, can give her all of the things she has right now. If this is the way fate gave her to climb up the ladders of society, she will willingly climb onto it. She did not like to return to her old life.

"You already said that," She replied to Adeline.

The other lady hugged her and brushed her back. "I know, I just want you to be safe."

"I am safe," Hazel said as they parted from the hug.

She can see the care and sincerity through Adeline's black eyes.

"I know what I'm doing," she added.

Then, tears slowly rolled down from Adeline's cheeks. "You know, I'm just sad because you are going to another university. I will miss you."

Hazel wiped the lady's eyes. "Don't cry. We can still hang out. I'm not going to another country." She said, giving her friend a smile.

"I know," Adeline said, wiping her tears and fixing her expression. "I will just miss the things we used to do."

"Me too. Don't worry. I will let Mr. Axel knows about you and I will ask permission if you can come and visit me. For sure, Theo will like you." Hazel said to cheer up her friend.

"Promise me." Adeline said.

"I promise," Hazel replied.
