The grand ballroom, once alive with music and laughter, now stood in eerie silence, tainted by the acrid scent of gunpowder and the coppery stench of blood. The remnants of chaos painted the marble floor in crimson streaks, while guests remained frozen, their masked faces twisted in shock and horror.
Emilio's chest rose and fell with ragged breaths, his rage barely contained. His piercing gaze swept over the trembling crowd.
Emilio: "Whoever dares to challenge my family will face a fate far worse than death!" His voice thundered through the vast hall, sending shivers down spines.
Standing amidst the carnage, Valentina swirled the wine in her glass, the blood splattered on her dress nothing more than an afterthought. Her lips curled into an amused smirk.
Valentina: "So, someone else had a grudge against the Morenos? How… fascinating".
Across the room, Raul tightened his hold on Laura, shielding her quivering form. She clung to him desperately, burying her face against his chest, her fingers gripping his suit as if it was the only thing tethering her to sanity.
Raul: "It's over, Angie," he murmured, stroking her hair gently. But deep down, he knew the truth. This was just the beginning.
Mr. Moreno, though visibly unsettled, quickly masked his unease with a commanding presence. Rocco: "Find out who sent them," ( he ordered, his voice eerily composed) "And bring me their heads."
His men immediately sprang into action, dragging the lifeless bodies away and murmuring orders into their earpieces.
Valentina's gaze flickered toward Raul. A single glance was all it took to convey their unspoken plan. "Stay close. Keep her safe. Gain her trust."
Raul exhaled subtly and nodded. He pulled Laura even closer, his fingers brushing against her bare back as he whispered,
Raul: "You're safe with me."
But even as he reassured her, his attention snapped back to Emilio, whose grip on his gun was tightening with barely restrained fury.
Then—
A piercing scream shattered the tension.
Every head turned as a maid, visibly shaking, pointed toward the grand doors. "T-There! That man—he was watching everything!" she cried out.
Emilio reacted instantly.
Emilio: "AFTER HIM!" he bellowed, his men surging forward in pursuit of the fleeing figure.
Valentina's eyes narrowed. Another player in the game?
As the tension thickened, Raul felt Laura's delicate fingers clench tighter around his arm.
Laura: "Marc… I don't feel safe here anymore," she whispered, voice trembling.
He looked down at her, his expression unreadable. Raul: ( Thoughts ) "Good. That's exactly what I need you to feel".
Valentina's voice crackled in his earpiece.
Valentina: "Keep her close, Raul. The real game begins now."
The chase proved fruitless. Emilio's men returned breathless and empty-handed. "He vanished into thin air."
Emilio let out a growl of frustration, his jaw tightening.
Emilio: "Find him. No one walks away from challenging me."
The ballroom, once suffocated by terror, began to ease as guests quietly murmured their goodbyes, eager to escape the bloodstained spectacle. The night's glamorous masquerade had turned into a massacre, and no one wished to linger any longer.
Raul loosened his protective hold on Laura, sensing her trembling form against him. Her wide, fearful eyes darted around as if bracing for another attack.
Raul: "Angie, people are leaving now," (he said in a calm, soothing tone) "You're safe."
She swallowed hard, her voice small. Laura: "I… I just want to go home."
Nodding, Raul led her to her father, Mr. Moreno. As he handed her over, he whispered,
Raul: "She's shaken. You should keep a close eye on her."
Emilio barely acknowledged him, still seething in his own storm of rage. But Raul didn't need a response. His job for the night was done.
Turning back to Laura, he reached into his pocket, retrieving a sleek black card. Raul: "I have to leave now. If you ever need me…" He handed it to her.
Laura hesitated before taking the card, her fingers brushing against his. She gave a small nod, though her eyes still held traces of fear.
Without another word, Raul turned and walked away, slipping seamlessly into the dispersing crowd.
Valentina had already made her exit. Raul followed her lead, each of them sliding into their respective cars and speeding off into the night.
As the neon city lights blurred past, a sudden peal of crazy laughter burst through Raul's earpiece—a sharp, unhinged sound that sent a flicker of concern through him, she laughed maniacally, making him worry about her.
Raul: "Valentina… are you okay?" he asked, gripping the steering wheel tighter.
Her laughter only grew, though there was something unsettling about it. Something twisted and exhilarated.
Valentina: "Isn't it funny, Raul?" (she mused between chuckles) "Someone else out there hates Moreno just as much as we do."
Raul exhaled sharply. Raul : "Yeah… that was unexpected. And interesting."
A dangerous gleam flickered in Valentina's eyes.
Valentina: "Whatever happens, we can't let them ruin our plan."
Raul's grip on the wheel tightened. Raul: "Agreed."
Her voice dropped to an icy whisper. Valentina: "The Morenos' downfall belongs to us. No one else gets to take them down before we do."
A slow smirk curled on her lips.
Valentina: "So we either eliminate this mystery assassin… or we make them ours."
Who was the unknown assailant?
Would they be a threat?
Or an unexpected ally?
Either way, the masquerade of deception was far from over...
It was just the beginning of more secrets and adventure...
No one knows what's awaiting them!!
